I've grown to hate when bags or web gear use D-rings to attach straps or hooks. The D shape should allow smooth swing of the strap, but that's never how it works out for me. Inevitably, the D ring twists until the hook is in one corner and the anchor loop in bunched up in the other corner. Drives me nuts! When I saw these, I thought they might be a solution. And they seem to be working well. The strap hook stays at the apex of the loop and prevents the hook from sliding to the corners. There is still a bit of tendency for the anchor strap to move to the side, but the shape prevents it from spinning around to the side like the D rings tend to do. And these are plenty strong, had to use wrenches to get an opening to do the replacement. I couldn't budge them at all by hand.The one bit of shortcoming, for it's intended use anyway, was the zinc coating. When I used the wrenches to bend it slightly for the replacement, it did flake off where the sharp edges started to dig in. That might not happen if threading straps through the undisturbed rings, but hook and strap wear is likely to cause similar flaking over time so long term rust resistance in outdoor use might be a concern.
