I like the quality of the cutter: solid beechwood, metal. I didn't like the lack of instructions or even an assembled view.

Cons - The blade is exposed and prone to cutting you wide open when trying to get a heavy piece of leather started. The ruled part of the tool doesn't sit flat in the hole of the handle, this means it can't be adjusted for thicker leathers. (The corners are rounded not square in the hole) This will require modifications with a file to fix. The imperial measurements are in 10ths of an inch!! Who the hell designed this?Pro - It cuts leather strips.I wish I didn't go the cheap route, and just paid up for a better one at Tandy's.

I thought better before buying this, but figured since I'm an experienced leather craftsman that I'd save a few bucks. Here's a lesson I paid for that you don't need to- spend the money on a better one. This is a dangerous item for beginners if you've never used one. Not only does it not come with instructions, the blades are not like other strap cutters. Typically the blades fit in the two pieces of horizontal wood. And the blade doesn't stick out. On this one, the blades are much larger in size that the two pieces of wood and about a half inch of razor sticks out. You could potentially cut it. But, there's really no safe way to even do that. Once set up, it really doesn't function smoothly. Starting is difficult. The pins that are supposed to tighten the blade down don't tighten. Probably a better idea to go with a Tandy or Weaver's option on this. They are much safer. Not to mention, I used 9 Oz leather which is extremely stiff and it still couldn't cut it. It just get bunched up. You also can't cut the maximum 4 inch belt straps with this (which is what I make) because the design of the tightening nut maxes out the maximum cutting width at 3.8 inches. Since I use a 4 inch industrial stamp press, my stamps won't work with 3.8. So not sure why it advertises that it will do 4.

I've only used it a couple times to make laces, does the job.
