Every of crunch still. But on some amps, even dialing down the gain just doesn't sound right. Even with volume changes. But this tube is clear, has good definition ( better than a 12ax7a). Can get very saturated if you want and more controllable gain so you can go after that power tube distortion. It doesn't really lower the volume of an amp. Still plenty loud.It was a great treat. I've tried a JAN 5751, but that is a different sort of tone (to me - a bit lifeless) . This is more gutsy to my ears and a more pleasing sound.I'd say this is a tube I wish I had more of for fiddling with. Definitely on V1. Great for my needs.Well built too!

Got this tube to put in V1 to tame the volume on my Blues Juniors. The size of the venues I'm playing are getting smaller and smaller and there's more demand for a cleaner and quieter volume. I can actually adjust the pre-amp volume without worrying about going from barely on, to too loud. I've got a million pedals to get crunch or more, so that's not an issue. I also heard the AY's were easier on the power transformer than the AT's which do the same thing or more. So far so good.

1.良い点 ①高域の音がきれいでのびやか。低域も図太くいい感じ。※（12AX7から差し替えたが、若干の定数変更を要した。）⓶12AX7と比べてﾍﾞｰﾙ1枚はいだ様な感じを受ける。現在はこれで非常に満足している。2.気になる点（注意点）①ﾋｰﾀｰ･ｶｿｰﾄﾞ間の耐圧が低い。（90Vとなっている。12AX7、12AU7は180V～200Vであり、余り気にしなくて良いが、回路（SRPP等・私のｱﾝﾌﾟ）によっては100Vを超えることもあるので注意要。⓶12AX7と差し替えただけでは、広域は奇麗なのだが低域は全く出なかった。内部抵抗の違いだと思うのだが？（負荷抵抗を390KΩから200ｋΩに、NFBを1.5KΩから1.0KΩに変えて今の感じに落ち着いた。）3.総括 12AX7が良くないのではなく、気にいって使っていたが。一旦こちらの音を聴くともう戻れない。※参考、ｱﾝﾌﾟKT-77ｼﾝｸﾞﾙ（自作） 以上

Used this preamp tube in my Marshall amp for 35-40 weeks before it gave out. I'm someone who pushes my amp to 50-hour a week practice sessions so this is kinda normal. For the average musician it might last at least 1.5 years.

l bought this 12AY7 to put in my Kustom "The Contender" amp. It's an 18 watt hybrid - meaning it has a tube in the preamp but otherwise is solid state. It came with a 12AX7, but I wanted to try a better tube, and one with lower gain. This tube has made a world of difference in the gain of the amp. It is much warmer and smoother and more usable. The amp has Volume & Master knobs, so you can dial in whatever dirt you'd like. It's a great little amp that I run through a 1x12 speaker cab, and this tube made it sound noticeably better.I've also used GT tubes in other all tube amps in the past, and I've never had an issue. They're a good compromise, in my mind, between quality and cost. I never have the budge to buy the super-expensive cork-sniffer tubes, so GTs suit me just fine.
