This device works well for cleaning gravel & for water exchanges. I always hated sucking on the end of a tube to get water to flow & this device works well.

The aquarium gravel vac looked great taking it out of the package. High quality plastics, assembled easily, looks to be durable, but operation was a total let down. So glad I got a chance to use it before the return window closed. Never have I gotten as much water on the floor or struggled as much to clean the tank. The primer bulb situated at the top of the tool makes the overall length difficult to manage. Can't see what the gravel vac is doing if I stand high enough on the stool to manage the tool. It has a check valve but seems to function poorly so hard to prime and need to manually pinch the hose closed between pumps. The tool has this odd angle where the hose connects which means the tool cannot go lower than the highest part of the aquarium so you can't reach inside a partially drained aquarium for better control. Shut off clamp included does not clamp off the flow. Which is actually good because if it did the leak in the hose connection somewhere near the top of the tool would break the siphon. Even the bucket clamp was hard to make stay attached and trying to re-prime the tool midway due to the leak squirts water everywhere.

This product was well designed (except for one thing!) and worked very well indeed. Internally there is a small grate that keeps gravel from being sucked all the way up into the top end, and it can be made very long indeed. My tank is about 26' deep and I use just the one clear section, but there are two in the kit!My one gripe is that the hose is angled downward, which does not make much sense when you have this in the tank and need to go up to go over the side. This causes kinks to occur if you are not careful, and this is not something that you would be concentrating on while draining into a bucket on the floor.Still, very sturdy construction and overall a vast improvement over what I have been using in the past. So 5 stars in spite of the angle of the hose exit from the vacuum!

While bigger than I anticipated, I LOVE this siphon. Few places for a seal to be broken, very few pumps required to get it going, tube is firm but soft enough to bend to control flow. I hated my python easy vac, the bendable part cracked and sprung a leak right away so no suction. However the bucket attachment I wasn't crazy about. I'll keep using the python attachment because it has an adjustable fit and it's easy to use.Highly recommend this product.

I have yet to find a squeeze bulb style tank cleaner that actually has ANY suction power. So far in my experience I have found they all are about the same, useless. This one barely has enough power to cycle the gravel at the bottom of my 55g tank. Whereas when I go back to using my tried and true tank cleaner (no bulb, just a hose with the larger gravel end - requires you to suck start the flow) I can actually suck the gravel out of my tank if I were to allow it. I even tried this by removing the screen that prevents gravel from entering the hose (useless as this doesn't even have the power to lift the gravel anyways...) and it made no difference. Unfortunately this just seems to be how it is with this bulb style tank gravel cleaner, they just plain don't work. Oh well, back to syphoning the old way....
