Upgraded from an old Mcintosh and although different nonetheless a great receiver. It delivers a great amount of power and my Bower and Wilkins have a much warmer tone now. Would recommend 10/10

I was seriously considering the Marantz Cinema 50. I listen to music 50% and movies 50% on a 4K Sony tv. No gaming. I found the Marantz 6015 provided very similar capabilities for less than half the price. I paid $1,250 during Prime day. It’s now $1,750 in most outlets and no longer available in many outlets. Marantz may have discontinued this. Very pleased with the amp/receiver. It powers 5.2.4 Klipsch speakers with Rp 8000f fronts and 504 center. I cannot comfortably increase sound level beyond 70%. System produces 110w per channel. The remote control is fine but not its strength nor is that a problem for me. It’s more than adequate.Concerning the 8k. This unit has one 8k hdmi interface. I feel that will future proof the unit for my needs for many years. If I were a gamer that might be different or if I chased the latest technology.There are still some refurbished 6015s available in the marketplace. I personally believe the 6015 is a great option.

My trusted Yamaha from 1997 finally died. Remained all-analog for as long as I could. Was not looking forward to the modern-day nonsense with crappy solid state amps. Tried a couple of options in the $700 range (yamaha/denon) and was left disappointed. Returned them both. Never had a Marantz product before so I started looking at reviews for something that would work with a 5.1 surround system and 110 - 150watts of power for the mains.To be fair it is more expensive (approx $2K as of this writing). Happy to say the SR6015 ticks all the boxes for a great 4K home theatre and music experience before ranging up into the boutique audiophile realm. I'd love for it to last another 20 years but with all the gimmicks of hdmi standards b.s., pointless 8K, yet-another-HDR format, etc, I'm sure it will be less than that.The other good thing is if you have a high-end pair of speakers in the 4ohm range, fear not, this does a fantastic job. I'm only listening in stereo at the moment but the soundstage is immersive, the stereo image is excellent, with something like a centered vocal being locked dead center. Great dynamic range for orchestral. Plenty of power for rock/pop Good crossover options for your subwoofer. I had to play with the DSP options a bit and found that Pure Direct coming from my Oppo BD player is the best for music.If you look at few reviews online most of them will sum it up as "we can't find anything wrong with this AVR for the price." I concur. Giving it a solid 5 stars.

04/02/25 UPDATE: Marantz did an update to my AVR and the dynamics dropped seriously across all eleven channels and the Left and Right subwoofers began acting like they did not have to follow any rules. I did some quick searching online and decided to put the Ohm setting back to 8-Ohms and not care about the “potential” excessive heating that I before thought would shorten the life of the SR6015. It turns out, since I'm using the Outlaw 5000 for the 5-channels on the floor, the SR6015 should have no problems with driving the remaining 6-channels [4 of which are the Atmos heights].I take back everything I have said about the SR6015 running better on the 4-Ohms setting with my ELAC 4-Ohms speakers. Apparently, the SR6015 was designed to handle a reasonable speaker load from 4-16 Ohms, just like has been advertised. And now it doesn't get nearly as hot as it did when I only had 2-speakers on the Outlaw, and nine on the SR6015. My dynamics are way back as is the tight integration of the subwoofers.To me, this is a combination of Marantz continually updating the SR6015 since 2020, and me setting the Ohm setting permanently back to 8-Ohms, where there will be absolutely no attenuation of power to the speakers. Of course, the Outlaw plays a part in all this too. 😎02/16/25 UPDATE: Hey guys. My SR6015 is sailing along perfectly, all is well. I added new subwoofer Definitive Technology DN8 to SUB2 Pre-Out because one of the SVS's died [after about a 7-year run]. The SR6015 was recalibrated with Audyssey MultEQ XT32 and the oddest thing happened: my bass became more musical and articulate 😂. This is not a good argument for SVS, but it is a great one for Definitive Technology.Now, the plan is to get another DN8 for the left side [SUB1], put the last good SVS in the bedroom and rock on. It is incredible the way that the SR6015 handles whatever is thrown at it with grace. This will probably be true of every one of these units except for the rare ones that are lemons. If you can identify you got a lemon, don't hesitate to send it back. It would be highly unusual to get two lemons in a row.Now, if only the networks and streamers will send us better produced content as in Dolby True HD and, ultimately, 8K. Isn't this why we bought the SR6015 and newer models to begin with?07/06/24 UPDATE: I discovered some important details about Marantz’s Dual-subwoofer feature. I came to realize all this when my subwoofer on the LEFT (SUB1 in the pre-out) began to pop and boom like it was doomed. I quickly unplugged both subs to figure this out.For example, I’m using SVS as SUB1 (left) and SUB2 (right), your subs may be different, but the SR6015 will handle Dual Subs exactly the same as this.I recommend using Audyssey MultEQ XT32 as this will sort out many issues in room calibration that is impossible to do with your ears, and cumbersome to do with hand-held gauges. After, you can disregard or accept the adjustments made by Audyssey. (Personally, I use the $20 App.)The short story: make sure that SUB1 AVR pre-out matches the left LINE IN on your sub playing the left channel. And the SUB2 pre-out matches the right LINE IN on your sub playing the right channel. I had both SUB1 and SUB2 using the same LINE IN, as it was suggested online which LINE IN didn’t matter. IT DOES!!!If you are only using one (1) sub, make sure that you follow the above PHASE alignments. This is very, very important.Full Disclosure: I was never completely satisfied with the way the SVS blended with my ELAC Uni-fi’s. Often, the SVS subs would fire in some milliseconds delay (uggh), and let you know they had just awakened and were obviously the low-frequency effects (LFE) doing their own thing. I took that for business as usual. Also, there was just something amiss with the famous Marantz sound???Now, wow! There is a seamless unity in the sound, and no pops, hisses, or booms out of place. It is so beautiful, I had to update my review.Also, I took the Apple TV 4K 2021 off the Marantz 8K input and put it on Input 4 (MEDIA PLAYER). Input 7 (8K) is empty, for now.04/16/21 UPDATE: I’ve had more time to evaluate the SR6015. It still is a winner in my book. There were some issues with some feeling that musical dynamics were a little off in my system. I blamed it mostly on my ELAC Uni-Fi speakers, as they are rated 4 Ohms impedance and considered very, very power hungry. I figured part of the blame could be the SR6015! Long story short: I switched the OHM setting from the default 8 Ohms to 4 Ohms in the SR6015 settings. Previously, from a lot of online research, I believed that if you had a choice in your amplifier to set a lower or higher ohm setting, you should always go with the higher setting. It was believed that manufacturers would set a switch between either 4/6/8 Ohms to pass ratings-testing for Underwriters Laboratories (UL) certification to prove that their units won’t clip, overheat, or malfunction with demanding speakers, except at very high volumes. Audiophile pundits believe that if you have 4 Ohm speakers, and you set the switch to 4 Ohms, the power supply will attenuate power to the speakers to prevent overheating and clipping, which at the same time decreases dynamics. I’ve followed that logic for several receivers over several years now. The Marantz SR6015 has proven to be very special in that the design engineers actually intended for the amps to handle 4 Ohms, or 6 Ohms, or 8 Ohms. Thus, they actually “open” more current in the 4 Ohms setting compared to 6 or 8, and the system functions in its full capacity, with no sign of clipping whatsoever when you have 4 Ohm impedance speakers and set the amp to 4 Ohms.I switched the setting to 4 Ohms, and my speakers “blossomed” even more than I thought possible. Where I was falling out-of-love with my ELAC Uni-Fi’s, now I’m back in love all over again, and my system is now more dynamic than I ever experienced before and is exactly what I was looking for. So, be sure to set the Ohm setting exactly according to what your speaker’s impedance are. Otherwise, you will be missing dynamics.Take your time exploring all the features and you’ll be richly rewarded!03/07/21 ORIGINAL REVIEW:After several weeks with the SR6015, I’m satisfied that I’ve learned why audiophiles at Audiogon Forum insist on using 2-channel systems for music, and more often than not, for movies also. Those guys may be snobbish, but they are, sometimes, the last word in audio advice. Many have both a system for music, and a separate one for tv/movies. The average system for them runs upwards of $20K for two-channel audio only. I’m very content that, although a part of me wants the very best sound and vision in a system, I’m very happy with the SR6015 and need look no further. I do have to confess that I’ve put about $20K in my system, including the Marantz SR6015, a 65” OLED tv, Sony 4K blu-ray player, Apple TV 4K, Outlaw 5000 power amp, 11 ELAC speaker boxes with 2 SVS subwoofers (7.2.4), and a LOT of Audioquest wire doing power, speaker, and interconnect duties. The remarkable thing is that the SR6015 makes perfect sense of it all.I took advantage of the new Marantz Preset-1 and Preset-2 function, and also the Amp Assign Mode “Pre Amplifier,” to calibrate Audyssey MultEQ XT32 (using the Audyssey editor app on IOS store) for both 7.2.4 surround (Preset-2 for movies & TV) and 2-channel stereo (Preset-1 for music). Marantz just recently included the 2 calibration presets and allowed the unit to be used as a pre-amp with the pre-outs. The beauty is being able to switch easily between using 11 channels [9 on Marantz, 2 on external amp] or just 2 channels [both on external amp—none on the Marantz]. Somehow, before this, music just wasn’t “right.” Many songs were strange coming from 11 speakers as the whole “sound stage” of the original artist’s performance is destroyed and made to sound “artificial,” when the artist recorded in stereo and did not record in surround sound. Quoting audiophiles in general, our quest is to “hear music the way the artist intended.” I believe you can accomplish that with Marantz components. I haven’t heard any music recorded in surround sound yet, but if that’s what the artist intended, then it would be “perfect” through a Marantz. Moreover, using the Marantz Smart Select function (4 buttons for 4 different sources and listening modes), switching sound mode is simple. I chose for SMART SELECT: 1. stereo music, 2. Blu-Ray, 3. TV & Movies, and 4. CD. I can go from stereo to surround-sound with just a push of a few buttons, although I still have to switch to the different source input with Logitech Harmony Elite remote. Smart Select remembers all the settings for each choice (MultEQ XT32 settings, crossovers, amp assign, etc.). My hope is that a future software update will yield a one-button process for each Smart Select, which essentially would have to act as a universal remote. Either way, the SR6015 is a gifted performer for both movies and music.I'm not a serious gamer, so I have no issues with the 4K/120Hz HDR discrepancy. I have confidence it will all work out as expected in the long run. I am currently running Apple TV 4K 2021 as a source through HDMI-7, the 8K input for the SR6015, set on 8K Enhanced, to make sure that input is working. Although the Apple TV 4K is only a 4K source, HDMI-7 outputs 4K/60Hz well through the 8K input, set on 8K Enhanced! Later, I'll try a 4K/120Hz source through HDMI-7. I don't want Xbox or Play Station. My hope is that Apple will bless us with 4K/120Hz functioning soon in the new Apple TV. I won't know about 120Hz until then.
