To deal with heavy rains here in SoCal, I bought a bunch of sand at the local hardware store, and got their free plastic bags to transfer the sand into. That seemed to work to help divert water during the atmospheric river we had this past month. But I don’t expect those bags will last long, and I’d like to hang on to the sand for future rains. Hence, these bags. The are well constructed from sturdy canvas, and while they look smaller than the standard bags, they are definitely larger than I expected them to be. Not sure they’ll hold an entire 50 pound bag of sand, but I believe they will come close.Sealing the ends of the bags is… ok. You folder over the top of the bag a few times and use the built in strap to close it. The clasp is plastic but seems sturdy enough. And the folded strap then doubles as a handle to carry the bag. But no matter how many times I folded the top over, by the time I lugged the bags to my garage for storage, they’d opened up a little bit. Not a lot, but enough that you need to be aware of it .Minor issue, overall a 4-star bag.

We usually get sandbags that are made from a woven polypropylene material that are really only good for temporary needs as the sun breaks them down very quickly. I think these are going to last quite a good deal longer as they are well constructed and made from a decent grade of canvas that should hold up much better. Provided picture of an empty bag with 18 pound cat for scale.Even though they are a quite a bit more expensive than the polypropylene bags, they should be reusable and hold up well enough that they'll most likely turn out to be cheaper in the long run, as we use sandbags frequently. It also means I won't have to be picking up the random pieces of the polypropylene bags for months. You would probably need at least 12 of these to make an adequate water barrier across the front of a two car garage. This set of 6 should be great for a single car garage.

Ordered these to keep in my truck for winter driving. They hold up better than the plastic weave and burlap style that are more or less one-time use. I like these because I can take them in and out of my truck and don’t have to worry about failures. Lasted one season so far and are in good shape.
