Made from a Nylon sleeve that will protect the cord and its characteristics, which is much better than a polypropylene sleeve that may deteriorate to direct sunlight. Originated to provide lightweight suspension from aircraft undercarriages before World War I to help absorb shock during transportation and assisted in old-style parachutes in deploying chutes when the ripcord was pulled.

This bungee material appears to be well made. Installed a few sections on my boat enclosure with hog rings.Time will tell if the elastic nature of the product remains. The 3/8 is a bit stiff for my application but I needed the diameter for the adjustable hooks.
