This product is excellent for the right flock of chickens. Sadly, I have a crippled chicken with one lame leg. How I affixed the automatic door to the coop required a little retrofitting. With these retrofits, there was a 3" rise at the top of the ramp into the coop. So my crippled chicken could not get over the 3" bar that supported the automatic door. My other chickens figured it out easily. I tested all the elements of the door. The solar panel works very well and even works with gray winter skies with no problem. It is larger than an iPhone. I ran the solar panel cord from the coop roof through the mesh run wall to the door. It's possible chickens could be attracted to the cord and peck at it, but I did not have that issue.The auto open and close features work very well and are easy to program. My favorite is the remote control. This is what I have been using the most due to my crippled chicken's issues. The remote made it easy for me to open and close on demand. The remote worked about 35' away from the door. I do recommend this product. Just be sure you understand the measurements and how it will affix to your coop. Once I get the time to train my crippled chicken how to hop the 3" raise, I will go back to using this door full-time.

If you’re a busy person and need something to help you out in the mornings with your girls then I suggest this! It opens and closed beautifully. Was easy to install. This was a decent item for the cost and am looking at adding another coop and would be adding one of these to that coop as well. It helps to worry about one less thing in the mornings - plus the solar addition is so very nice. So far I’ve had zero issues with this!

I have not had a chance to install this item yet, but it seems to be straight forward. I've looked for automatic coop doors for about a year, since I got my backyard flock. I picked this item because of the solar panel and the price. We are building a new coop this spring so it will be assembled fully and installed then. This is a great value compared to others available on Amazon and other online stores which I have seen be more than twice the price of this item. It comes with all you would need to install this to an existing coop opening. There are instructions for operation and installation which are clear and concise. It also comes with a charger in case you don't have enough solar energy during rainy or winter seasons. I was able to put this on the included charger and open the door after about 3 minutes. The green battery indicator light changed from red after about 4 hours with the included USB cord.The door opening where chickens actually pass through is 8.25"x9.5". I think the size is sufficient for my hens. It is nice that it has a remote you can operate from inside to open and close manually but the door can also be programmed to open and close at specific times or set based on "light sensing mode". I am excited to get this installed, I will update my review as needed after install!

I did extensive testing of the door before I cut and framed my chicken coop. I wanted to be sure it was everything it said before butchering my coop. I had one on my coop before and it started failing at about one year of use. It no longer works on auto, only manual. I have hopes that this one last longer. It has many features my other didn't, like digital screen with battery indicator, time, mode settings, and open/close time settings. It also has a remote control which can be handy if I need to open or close manually without walking up to the coop through the chicken poop. After testing, everything functions as advertised. I tested everything including all 4 modes and the remote. The Only thing I didn't like is the mount for the solar panel. My old one had a bracket that made it stand off at an angle, with pivot, to direct for best sun capture. This one only has a single screw slot (keyhole slot) for mounting flat on a flat surface. Would have been nice to have an adjustable stand off mounting bracket. Other than that, I really like the door. When the weather clears, I will have to re-frame the opening in the coop since the other door was larger and the hole is too big for the new one. I will post pics then and update the review after real world use in real world weather. Longevity to be determined.

We rehabilitated our old farm chicken coop which was originally built in 1966 along with our house. This solar automatic door is a game changer. I now only check on the chickens in the evening to make sure everyone got back into the coop before it closed. We did make sure to install the solar panel at the very top of the coop roof. So far no issues.
