I opted for this SOL heavy duty XL mylar emergency blanket over traditional mylar emergency blankets for adding a lightweight tarp/shelter option into a three-day survival kit build-out for an upcoming training. This emergency blanket will work great for my intended purpose, which will NOT include long-term/overnight wrapping of my body. If you're unfamiliar with/have never used mylar, while it will help reflect heat, it also DOES NOT BREATH!!! Longer-term wrapping of your body will only produce condensation, which leads to moisture, which leads to wet, which leads to convection and loss of body heat, which leads to miserably unfortunate circumstances! This emergency blanket will be used as a tarp/shelter system. The size of this blanket is approximately 8ft x 5ft and will provide enough coverage and protection for an emergency shelter. This blanket is much thicker and more durable than a traditional mylar emergency blanket. I reinforced the corners with some Gorilla tape and paracord pull-outs for staking or for working with a ridge line, and the total weight is just shy of 8 ounces--perfect, larger coverage, more compactible, lighter, and no less durable than a reflective 5x7 survival blanket with grommeted corners, which by the way still requires duct tape reinforcement of all grommets and seams to avoid tear-outs.At the end of the day, this is still just a reflective, mylar emergency blanket. It will be durable enough for training exercises, but as with any emergency/survival blanket, will need replacement after a handful of uses and training scenarios. Like all emergency/survival blankets, they're mostly built to be used for one-and-done purposes.Note: This is not designed to be a piece of durable, permanent gear, but rather a lightweight reflective emergency survival item to assist with reflecting heat and temporary survival situations. If you're looking for long-term durability as part of a more permanent tarp/shelter set-up, such extends beyond the scope and purpose of this item!As far as mylar emergency blankets are concerned, this SOL Heavy Duty XL is a solid offering. It's much more expensive than those traditional mylar emergency blankets, but much more durable and larger with improved coverage area.

Lightweight, packable and great emergency use or to supplement sleep system when your sleeping bag proves not to be as warm as the rating suggests. Remember whilst emergency blankets prevent you losing 90% of body heat, if you wrap it around someone already hypothermic they may need extra heat sources, even if you just put some handwarmers in their armpits! Useful in a First-aid kit too, as prevention against Shock. I like these ones as they are repackable and suited to multiple uses, where the cheap silver ones rip in a slight breeze. These aren't as noisy as cheap ones either. If your going to use in emergencies, its useful the outside is Orange for visibility. Hopefully your casualty won't get run over by the ambulance!

El tamaño es bastante más grande que las convencionales, el material más resistente que las de mylar.

The good: SOL products deserve the reputation they have acquired for being bullet-proof! Considerably more durable than budget survival blankets, these are readily re-used and damages can be repaired with duct tape to prolong the useful life of the product. This blanket can be folded up and easily fits into the original packaging(ziploc bag) after being opened. It isn't complicated to fold up and doesn't require being perfectly folded up the same way the manufacturer had initially packaged it as. Lightweight, very, and also quite compact. The bad: This isn't even worth half a star; these are very expensive compared to super budget survival bags. You can get 10 for $10 of the budget, single-use bags. I prefer the quality that SOL Emergency Blanket provides but you should be aware of this, probably the only, disadvantage of this product compared to the inferior competing products.I use these blankets as a ground sheet, along with a Tyvek sheet beneath it, to place under my sleeping pad with very good results. I also carry another in my first aid kit for emergency use. Highly recommended! One for every first aid kit, BOB, etc!
