I am someone that only enjoys a small amount (one glass or less) of wine with a meal occasionally, so this is perfect for me- I love it & it works great to keep the wine fresher once it's opened. It takes a while (days to a week) for me to finish a bottle of wine if not shared, risking that it goes stale (oxidizes), so the most important part of this set is the vacuum-sealer. But this is also greatly appreciated by those who regularly consume wine- so really, this set is for anyone who enjoys wine, no matter how frequent. It would be especially impressive for your next intimate dinner, where you want the wine to stay chilled & close at hand. It includes a wine opener, a nice pour spout to avoid messy dribbling, & a portable wine chiller that you just store in the freezer prior to use, & which can certainly double for other chilling purposes too (including your next bruise, sprain, or headache). I happen to love that the chiller fits perfectly inside the beautifully-decorated terra cotta wine chiller I already have (that works only on evaporation), but it can be used alone around any bottle of your choice- even your soft drinks or in your packed lunch. Since so much of this set can serve multiple purposes, it really makes a thoughtful gift, including for the holidays, & would be especially relevant as a host/hostess thank you gift too. I've been aware of this product for quite some time- it's about time I got my own.

For those that enjoy wine and only have the bare-bones openers and glasses to enjoy them with, this is a great mid-range quality set to have or to gift to someone.Everything arrived in a nice-looking giftable box that describes all of the pieces, though nothing was included in the set that would be practical to use for storage of these pieces.Pros - It comes with two reusable stoppers which work together with a vacuum pump which does actually seem to help wine stay fresher longer, so for infrequent drinkers this could potentially save you some money in the long run, or for others at least preserve a better flavor for longer. The vacuum pump device is simple and very easy to use - much simpler though probably not quite as effective as those expensive and more complicated systems I have seen that inject inert gas into the bottle. It also comes with a good lever corkscrew opener that - like most decent lever corkscrew openers - makes opening a bottle fast and effortless. The aerator is also a simple but effective device that easily and snugly fits to the top of a wine bottle so you can pour aerated wine straight from the bottle to the glass with little effort and no extra hands involved.I taste-tested a Bordeaux and a relatively bold Pinot Noir both with and without the aerator and I can say that both myself and my friend could detect a noticeable "opening up" and smoothing of flavor using this aerator. I also compared this aerator to a Vinturi-style aerator with the same Bordeaux wine and I would say that maybe the Vinturi-style aerator did a slightly better job but it was very hard to tell the difference between them. Between the two aerators I would in most cases choose thise Vacu Vin aerator for all but the most special of wines because of its ease of use.Cons - While everything seems to be of good quality and I think will last a long time, the set overall looks and "feels" more practical than luxurious. The two stoppers are basically high quality plastic and rubber and have no decorative value. The vacuum pump works fine but just looks like a hunk of black plastic. The lever corkscrew does look pretty nice but it's nothing overly fancy. And the aerator does a good job but a bottle of wine doesn't look quite as nice with a big plastic aerator sitting on top of it.Recommend that you rinse the aerator soon after use to avoid difficulty cleaning after it has dried out. The aerator LOOKS like it can be easily opened up for cleaning but the plastic clips on either side don't easily bend and I stopped trying for fear that I might break them.Also, the corkscrew is pretty sharp which is a good thing but you may want to keep it covered. You can keep the original plastic sleeve that covered the corkscrew, or if you lost the sleeve then maybe you can keep it embedded in a cork for protection if you feel that's necessary.

This review is for the VACU VIN Wine Set (Air Deluxe, 5 pieces). I received a free sample of this wine set in my search for useful and well-made wine accessories.The set arrived in a nicely branded and decorated box with pictures and descriptions of the contents as well as highlights of certain features. If gifting this set, it can be gifted in a gift bag or wrapped with a bow. The set is comprised of a three-piece wine saver (one pump and two stoppers), a wine aerator, and a lever corkscrew. The core value of this set is with the wine saver system of one pump and two universal stoppers. The black plastic pump weighs 66 grams with a length of 5" length around a 1 1/2" diameter body and a handle width of 3". The universal stoppers are an average of 10.5 grams each with a height of 1 1/2" around an 3/4" diameter that increases to a 1 1/4" diameter near the collar. The top of the stopper has a knobby protrusion which can be tilted to break the vacuum seal. In terms of use and functionality, it was fairly straightforward to place the stopper onto the neck of a wine bottle, seat the pump, and move the pump handle up and down until an audible clicking sound indicating a good vacuum seal was achieved. I've been using this specific wine saver system for a long time and three things have stood out when comparing it to other systems: the pump provides an audible click when a good vacuum seal is achieved; the pump evacuates more air than other systems (typically extending the longevity of the wine by three days or so when also refrigerated); and the shape of the stoppers makes it easy to securely seat the pump.The other two items in this set weren't as impressive, although the lever corkscrew does have some use. The lever corkscrew is a mostly chromed metal and black plastic construction that weighs 535 grams and measures 7 1/2" x 5" x 2". Even though this particular variant is 30% lighter than the other brands I've used, it has a sharp screw and was effective at quickly and easily removing the cork from several wine bottles. Overall, this is a useful wine opening tool for those wine drinkers that don't have one and aren't at the point where they prefer a double-hinged metal body corkscrew.The same utility can't really be said for the wine aerator which looks really cool but fails on a couple points. The aerator weighs 53 grams and measures approximately 3 1/2" x 6" x 1 1/2". Ignoring my skepticism about aerators being effective in the scant seconds or less during a pour, this plastic aerator feels a bit cheap from its all-plastic construction, the thin rubberized material around the neck, and the rough edges around the spout. The worst feature or lack thereof is that you can't really open it up for cleaning, so you have to pretty much be prepared to quickly rinse it out.All in all, this is a somewhat decent wine accessory starter set or generic corporate gift with a nice wine saver system and a somewhat useful lever corkscrew. I would recommend this as a potentially decent starter set for people that don't have a wine saver system and a lever corkscrew but would also recommend that you consider picking up a la carte their wine saver system, a better lever corkscrew or a double-hinged metal corkscrew, and a decanter.

Vacu Vin has been around for a long time. I have come across components of this set many times over the years and I can’t tell you how pleased I am that I got to order this set so now I have them all together in one place.The main idea with Vacu Vin is there is a lot of focus on aeration of your wine for the proper drinking experience, but too much oxygen and you from an enjoyable wine to something much less enjoyable, basically a bad vinegar.If you are like my wife and as she would say better at pouring drinks than drinking them, but you also like to have wine as part of your daily or at least weekly life, then it is imperative to be able to preserve it so you aren’t throwing away good wine more than you are drinking good wine.For a frequent, but light drinker of wine, where you’d like multiple servings across a few days, maybe a week or so, from the same bottle the procedure would be to use their absolutely excellent bottle opener. It really is one of my favorite designs of all time. Attach their aerator which, while I’ve seen smaller designs, I don’t know that there are any better designs, and pour yourself a nice glass. Remove the aerator, insert a stopper, and then use the Vacu Vin vacuum tool to pull out the air and seal the stopper in place. The next time you want some wine, just push the center post on the stopper to the side which releases the vacuum, attaché the aerator, pour and repeat the process.Also, it must be noted, it is a complete no harm, no foul situation if say you do this process just for fun and still finish the entire bottle in one evening… speaking for a friend, of course.Vacu Vin is still the original and is still made by them in their own factory which is in The Netherlands. I can highly recommend this original as I already know it has stood the test of time and is still delivering a wonderful wine drinking experience.
