As a wanna-be leather worker, I have been surprised (and a little put off) by the number of specialized tools available. It's an interesting hobby no doubt, but you can fall exceptional far down a rabbit hole when trying to figure out exactly what you need to get rolling. As with almost anything, better tools can level out a learning curve. They won't make you a Master leather worker overnight, but they will allow you to focus on honing your skills instead of honing your tools!Quality: I selected the set of (5) metric punches to check out and am not really impressed by their quality. As you can see in my photos, the metal is not particularly well formed, the grind on the cutting edge is inconsistent. The largest of the tools has voids at the surface on the backside that will mean I'll need to hack it off if/when i sharpen it to that point. That said, expecting a cheap, cutting tool to arrive razor sharp and in perfect condition is not reasonable. I have tuned and refurbished many new and old hand tools and know this from long experience.Edge: At the first use, these do not cut leather very well. However, after about 10-ish minutes with a wet grinder, slip stone, and strop I did manage to get the largest of them hair whittling sharp and it cut a piece of leather nicely. Whether it can hold that edge is yet to be seen but for a tool that only sees occasionally use, it will do for my purposes. It sharpened rather easily, so my guess is that it is not particularly hard steel. (That's one factor in holding an edge...)Value: This is a tough one. If you're looking at these you're likely familiar with the cost/value conversation. A single high-end version of just one of these tools goes for a multiple of this entire set. So, it comes down to a use case consideration. Here is my matrix. If I expect to use a tool more than:Once a week - I get the very best tool I can find without regard to price. Buy once, cry once...it works.Once a month - I get the best *value* tool available. This is where many of my tool purchases have been focused since I'm a hobbyist in most things.Once a year - I seek a tool that is a few steps above the lowest price. (Often the sweet spot for beginners.)Once - I get the cheapest tool I can find. This set fits sort of between the "once a year" and "once" categories. If I find myself using them more often than I expect, they will be replaced rapidly.Bottom line: These might be the right choice if you are just getting started. Expect to have to do a lot of work to get and keep them sharp but, for sparse usage, they can and will cut leather fairly accurately. If you found this review worth your time to read and useful, I would appreciate it if you would kindly hit the "helpful" button. That is the only way to get feedback that helps me to understand whether it is worth my time to get deeper into the weeds on these items or not. Thanks in advance!

I have a bunch of leather working tools. I use tools like these for making 'stuff', like belts, straps, etc. These work but I have to be careful how much power I use when hitting them with a hammer. When I use thin leather, these are just fine. When I use thicker leather, they done always make it through the leather around the unsupported edges. The other tools I have that do similar work have kind of got a triangle support that extends down to the edges on the 'wings'. That says, instead of just whacking the tools harder, I grab a pair of scissors and use the imprint as the guide for cutting.Caveat: I have bent some pretty stout tools when cutting thicker veg tanned leather even when using a rawhide hammer so your mileage may vary.

The 25mm punch has forging slag right by the cutting edge. So unless I spend an hour plus cleaning up the mistakes. To where the tool can be sharpened. The tool is not useable. I can cut a better shape with a dull screwdriver.I was seriously hoping WUTA would be the creme of Chinese leather tools but they're not. It's the same low quality as everything else. All I wanted was some decent leather tools but Nope. It's not happening, again. Extremely disappointed, Again. Two stars because at least they showed up. Thanks for the quick shipping. No thanks for the horrible quality.

No todos tienen el filo que deberían. Resistentes, pero sin filo adecuado
