This is a surprising product - it's rare to find an acoustic diffuser made of foam. The job of a diffuser is to scatter sound, so it must be made of a material that reflects sound rather than absorbing it. The usual choice is wood. But these aren't made of the usual absorptive acoustic foam, but rather a stiff foam that clearly does reflect sound. The design - the grid with varying depths of holes - is evidently a copy of similar products that are made of wood. How do they compare to wood? I'm not equipped for a rigorous measurement (measuring the behavior of diffusers is notoriously difficult), but they pass the "shout test": shout at it, and you'll hear something coming back, unlike with absorbers. I expect that, properly placed, these panels will introduce some sound diffusion into the room. I'll experiment with placement to see how well they work in my studio.

The diffuser panels are made out of a stiff EVA foam which is CNC routed out to make the various depth holes for sound attenuation. These are not the typical soft, compressible foam that is normally seen for sound absorption. This is designed to mimic wood diffusion panels where the sound waves are broken up and bounced in different directions without the normal absorption through a soft material. These add an additional benefit to those wood diffusion panels in that this isn’t super soft, but the material will still absorb a lot of sound while also diffusing it. However, these panels when put together only form a 23-1/2” x 23-1/2” square as they are made to metric measurements and each panel is ¼” shy of 1’ x 1’. Also, slightly less than 2” in depth.Amazon Vine sent this product to me for an honest unbiased review. Would I recommend it? Yes, these are really nice EVA acoustic diffuser panels. However, I thought each panel was 2’ x 2’. They are four panels that make up an almost 2’ x 2’ panel.

First off, these look great - the waffle-style panels really catch the eye. I've never had enough cash on hand to do my entire studio at once and have what I call "Franken-wall" utilizing no fewer than six different types of tiles. I have the higher-quality tiles where they are most critically needed (in the direct bounce line of the mic) and the rest are used as filler for less crucial areas. While these tiles were ordered in the hopes that they would be fitting for my most critical recording areas (and given the thickness, material, texture, and price, I feel that it was a reasonable assumption), I have instead found them to be of average (or slightly above average) quality in terms of diffusing sound in my recording studio. I'll definitely use them - they do work - but I doubt I will buy any more since many of my cheaper tiles work just as well.

The 24”x24”x2 Waffle Style Acoustic Panels in black foam for home studio use are, at best, average. The diffusion they provide is basic, and considering the relatively high price for foam treatment, the overall value may not align with expectations.
