I attempted to use one of these in my theater to avoid the necessity of an acoustically transparent screen. Having a center channel located in the ceiling is suboptimal but this particular speaker seemed to have a lot of good reviews so I gave it a shot. This is being driven by an Anthem receiver and I was using it to replace an Infinity Primus PC 250 center channel - same basic specs. The audio quality issues were immediately evident. The plastic box created an almost bullhorn-like echo effect. It didn't matter what angle I set the speakers at, the hollow echo quality overshadowed the whole speaker. The speaker didn't have any problems with distortion or clarity by itself, it was just that box creating the echo effect.Installation instructions leave a lot to be desired - there's no illustration explaining how to remove the grille - something you have to do to install or adjust the speaker. The provided tool does a very poor job of helping you to pry the grille off.The instructions don't explain how to adjust the speaker angle - you have to loosen two screws on either side of the box.Mounting is kind of intuitive, but the instructions could have illustrated better what's going on.I think with some refinement this might be work-able but for now I'm sending it back and returning to my original plan to use an acoustically transparent screen.

These are just OK. They sound hollow and have little range. This is in a new house but the same Yamaha receiver I had in the last house. The last house had in wall Micca speakers. Possibly due to how the walls were more enclosed than our ceiling here, they sounded great. These, with the same settings and even same powered subwoofer, just sounded bad. With quite a bit of adjustment to the receiver output I was able to get them to sound 'OK' for TV, but music is seriously lacking.I have the angled ceiling center speaker and 2 of the 8" angled round ceiling speakers. Wiring is 14ga aluminum-free copper (Monoprice) wire. These act as if they were not designed for open air (like a ceiling - granted there is insulation) but for an enclosed "box" like a studded wall, giving them the hollow sound. When the weather cools down I may try to build a small enclosure around them in the attic to, hopefully, contain the sound. As an added bonus, the template for the round speakers is just a tad small, so when you cut that perfect circle to the template, just know you will have to recut.I would probably return if I hadn't cut the ceiling open for them.

I installed this along with 6 of the 8" in-wall Silver Ticket speakers. This center speaker is in the cieling a few feet in front of the TV, and is angled directly at the couch. The clarity is awesome, there's zero distortion at very high volume, and looks great. Installation is as simple as hooking up your speaker wires, pushing into the hole that you cut out with the included template, and turning some screws. Just be careful to check for a joist where you want to place the speaker. Unfortunately I had one directly in the center of the room that I couldn't avoid without the speaker being way off-center, so I had to cut it and shore it up to redirect the load of that joist. Still worth it!

To start off, I'm a sound snob/audiophile. I am using this speaker for a center channel in the family room in order to achieve 5.1, but without taking away from the aesthetics of the room - so a large center channel speaker from JBL or mirage was out. After installation and enabling the center channel on the receiver, this speaker instantly brought the sound stage up to the TV height (which is above the fireplace mantle). This is expected since its mounted in the ceiling, however with it being at an angle, even 20 ft back it sounds like its aimed right at you. The vocals are clear and smooth and it really integrates well with the rest of the system. I think the silk dome tweeter along with the decent sized woofers and crossover helps voices to sound natural and allows the speaker to do its job really well.

I bought this to replace a single in ceiling speaker that I had as the center speaker for a surround sound system. This is perfect because you can aim the speakers exactly where you want them and the dual speakers deliver a bigger punch which helps with the vocal audio which can get drowned out. These are not the most high end speakers and the sound could be a little better but for the price they are excellent. I looked around on amazon for a long time, and these were the best I could find in the price range, and I was not disappointed in the quality. The only thing I did not like about these is that the have the small push clip type speaker wire connectors. If you have larger gauge speaker wire you may have some difficulty getting the wire into the actual speaker wire connector. If not for this I would have given them 5 stars.
