Initially had issues using the Microsoft driver (11.1.621.2021 3/3/2016) which is what you get if you just plug in. Ethernet would drop and would need to disable-re-enable to restore..Updating driver to Realtek driver (1156.15.20.327 3/27/2024) for RTL8156b chip set from realteks website mitigated the issue.. Also the realtek driver exposes a lot of configurations options to fine tune.

When optical fiber broadband internet finally came to our neighborhood after a long wait, I had to quickly and affordably figure out how to share the speed with many clients. With this adapter, it was true plug and play on all three of my home operating systems (Mac, Windows, and Linux). One very old laptop fortunately had an early gen USB3 port, and it too moves along at close to 2Gig speed. This device worked so well, I bought two more. A great solution at a decent price.

Finding a USB network adapter that works on Linux is a challenge in itself. Very pleased to add this to my backup server, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and it worked straight away, no messing with kernel modules and downloads.Server is a 2 disk mirror of HDDs, but managed to max out at 200MBs/1600Mbs reading off it which is as much as I'd expect off a couple of 5400 spinners.

Plug and play on Linux, which is nice. Also it's USB A so it doesn't have a tendency to fall out like USB-C does. The dongle has a short cord and the housing feels sturdy. There are other options, but I wanted to buy from a reputable brand and thirty bucks is cheap frankly.I'm fortunate to have 10 gigabit internet at home and my desktop only has a 1gige port. Connected to the 10gige port on my router and it's certainly more than doubled my connection. This is a nice option if you don't have a PCIe slot available for a dedicated 10 gig card. No complaints at all so far, I more than doubled my bandwidth and I'm hitting around 2.3gbps to my nearest speed test location.Of course, this is only worth it if you actually have a connection that's faster than gigabit, and 95% of people don't. Even then, most NAS boxes, virtually all consumer routers and even speedtest servers are gigabit at best.
