In order to use the app, you must submit an email and get a "Permission to Use" code that lasts 30min, after the 30min you must send another Email. It is a total waste of time in every way.

I am a real novice here, so I was immediately impressed with this light. What I like the best is that you can control the light effects and settings on the light itself and the app (and that it comes with a sturdy carrying case). This mounts easily on a light stand and is lightweight, considering all that it is capable of.

I know the word "budget" is relative and not every videographer/photographer wants to spend or can even afford $570 on a single light but considering the alternatives and the baked in features of this light, $570 is indeed a budget price. I have two Amaran lights, among several other non-brand name lights and this version is the standout both in quality and function in the "prosumer" level lights that I have.Fit and finish of the light and its accessories are great. I know Aputure has their Pro series but for the semi-pro videographer/photographer like myself, the quality of the Amaran series is just fine. For me, knowing that these lights come from Aputure gives me the confidence that I don't need to run color tests and scrutinize every little color shift the light may have in all of its various levels of output and color. My workflow does not demand such precision. I just need enough power to light a scene or an object, check my color against a card or in camera, and shoot it.If I had to gripe about something, I do wish this particular light had built-in battery-back options. I won't be knocking the rating because of this since I knew when ordering that it didn't but I think at this price point, Aputure could have thrown in a v-mount adapter in the case. Speaking of case, although good for storage in the studio, it's not going to hold up over time if transported regularly. Something to consider.

Considered Aputure's budget brand Amaran is far from budget quality when it comes to their equipment. And still, this Amaran 300c is a photographer/videographer's dream light! The measure and quality of everything is top-notch. In the hard-foam case, you receive the light with stand mount, Bowens mounted reflector, a power cable with a power brick, and an instruction manual. The light can be adjusted from 2500K to 7500K bi-color with 360° HSI control - Full RGB at 300W output giving you nearly 20,000 lumens - sunlight conditions at 2 meters. Absolutely, one amazingly intense light! There is an app you can download and use to control the light, however, I have yet to do this so I can't really comment on it.I have used the light now a good handful of times to create colored backgrounds for some of my shoots and I have to say it's a breeze to use. The controls on the back are laid out well with either a twist or a push to any of the knobs and you'll have what you're looking for. I know that with the app you also have access to 9 FX modes (Paparazzi, Fireworks, Lightning, Faulty Bulb, TV, Pulsing, Strobe, Explosion, & Fire).Overall, if you're in need of a light that can literally recreate sunlight - then this is the light you're going to want to pick up. There are several other lights out there that come close in specs but don't meet them and they're not made with this quality and have the reliability of Aputure.

Really nothing here not to love. 300 watts means plenty of power on tap for most any lighting application you might need it for. It's a powerful key light when you need it to be, and a powerful effects/accent light when you need it to be. The app works great and gives you granular control, alongside whichever other Amaran lights you're running. Works great with any bowens mount modifier. For me, bringing this light to a shoot means I can leave three separate lights at home, and that's huge when I'm the guy that has to move and set up everything myself. The CRI/color accuracy of this light (especially on white/daylight) is less than a simple daylight or bi-color light, but honestly unless you're working in a super professional setting where people are tracking things like color light values closely, it's unlikely to ever be an issue. The physical construction of this is good quality, and exactly in-line with previous iterations of the Amaran line. In short, they won't likely survive being dropped off a ladder every day by a lazy grip in a professional studio setting, but given reasonable use and care they should last a long time.It runs nearly silent, great for interview settings or any place where clean audio is a must. The "case" it comes with is mostly a hard styrofoam shipping shell. It's a cute gimmick but isn't going to be super useful in the long term as a transport case, unless you pack it in something else.If you want someone trustworthy to explain all the detailed specs to you, I'd recommend checking out Curtis Judd's review of this light (and the 150c) on YouTube. I find his assessments to be very fair and useful, without the hype that a lot of YT gear jockeys bring to every product, regardless of quality. This is expensive when compared to super-cheap lights with less features, but given the power and versatility on tap here I'd say it's a very attractive value proposition.
