Acerca de este artículo

  • Detects leaking gas in closed piping systems
  • Semiconductor sensor detects methane and propane gas
  • Flexible stainless steel probe provides access to hard-to-reach areas
  • Audible buzzer and a display panel with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) indicate presence and concentration of detected gas
  • Automatic calibration at start-up helps ensure accuracy

The Amprobe GSD600 Gas Leak Detector is a fast responding gas leak detector for methane and propane gas. The meter emits a frequency tone when gas is detected. The frequency of the beep coincides with the concentration of the gas. The LEDs display the level of gas present in an area or room. Pinpoint gas leaks for closed piping systems. Use the mute function in quiet work areas and utilize the LED displays. Or a standard earphone jack for hearing the meter in loud environments.

Saved me the cost of a plumber tracking down a very small gas leak. Turned out to be a loose screw on an old valve handle. Detector confirmed it was no longer leaking after tightening. Awesome product.Had a plumber over a while later to do some gas work. Checked it with this meter with him there just to be sure I wouldn't have to call him back. Glad I did, because it was leaking. This thing may have saved us twice from something that could have been an annoyance or a disaster.

A small gas leak in a large building can be painfully hard to find. We spent a ton of time sniffing around and using bubbles on random connections with no success. This tool led me right to the problem in just a few minutes.First, note that this tool will calibrate itself automatically every time you turn it on; so I was always turning it on while outside in open air to get a good baseline. Then, I noticed how cool this tool is right away. I walked into the building and the GSD600 immediately detected gas to its first indicator level (there's an escalated set of indicators and sounds as it senses gases more intensely). It detected this gas in a building where I could not smell anything at all; and the gas had been shut off at the meter for about 24 hours! I stepped back outside and the indication cleared ..stepped back inside and it registered one light. Very nice.I then turned the gas on, and proceeded to wander around different areas poking the sensor into corners and closets, etc. Methane (Natural Gas) rises, so I was checking along ceilings and high areas that may trap gases. I went to the basement and poked the sensor into each joist cavity for a few seconds. Eventually I found a space that lit the sensor up like a Christmas tree and it didn't take long to follow it to the source; a small leak in a poorly installed fitting. Thank you!

The object is to lead you to or find the place of the leak. No leak is OK in a home, As you get closer the PPM goes up. It may not even register until 2" away from a leak. That simple. Instructions are simple and easy to follow. For joints where a leak is detected, usually the next step is to spray or brush on liquid leak detector solution and note the speed and size of the bubbles. Gas companies employees sometime use such a detector, sometime they just use the solution. All you do to uses this is press ON and wait for it to calibrate which lights up the OK LED and beeps. It comes with a really great case. One leak I found was in my mother's basement. We did not smell a thing but I found a pipe joint that was leaking. Since it was on the Gas company piping, they came a fixed it in less than an hour. Later I found other leaks in our relative's houses at joints and at the shutoff valve. This is a really great device to have. It lets you tell the whomever where the leak is so work can be started right away. And realize there can always be more than one leak. The only thing that could be improved is that the two screws that hold the battery case closed are easy to loose since they just fall off when removed instead of being locked to the plastic door. Uses 4 AA batteries.

First, something that was mentioned in these reviews: Yes, this device detects natural gas. Another buyer already said it and I confirm. Since the Amprobe is equipped with a Figaro TGS 2611 sensor (properly a methane semiconductor detector), it can safely confirm that this device detects natural gas.About the device itself, I also confirm that it is extremely sensitive. The big question is: At what level the gas detection is dangerous? For example, Is 40 ppm level dangerous? Is 60 ppm level dangerous? In other words, At what level detected we should start worrying? As this unit is not announced exclusively for gas experts or plumbers but also for home use, Amprobe should clarify or give more information about this question. This may seem silly but the truth is that many people (like me) buy these devices searching help to find gas leaks at home that we can smell but we don't know where are. The problem with such extremely sensitive device is it also detects other minimal leaks that we can't smell. Leaks that nobody knows before that exists. Result: you begin to go something crazy asking something like “Is this really a leak or it’s perhaps an appliance measurement error?. And you go crazy thinking the valves and pipe joints that you must fix or change. It is my personal experience of course! Finally, a minor but not least important detail: the sensor cap is very fragile. It should have a better design to protect internal wires when removing the cap. Accidentally I unscrewed the sensor cap and the single rotation of it breaks the extremely thin and unprotected internal wires. I think that it would be good that Amprobe copy the best practices of the best manufacturers and redesign that so fragile part of the device with some protection for these wires. A favour to “fools” like me.Conclusion: I still believe that this Amprobe gas leak detector is the best relation quality/money and I recommend it, with the doubts observations noted above.
