A successful purchase which was greatly appreciated by my nephew who couldn't wait to use it to improve his star gazing experience.

Perfect for any telescope a must have if you don’t have a low horizon

I have no complaints at all. It's very nice, well-made, and it makes guiding my telescope so much easier.

1. It's light - 101g / 3.6oz (weighed on a scale)2. Internal blackening of nosepiece is good, but the prism edges are too exposed on the eyepiece side, allowing glare to enter the eyepiece. They should have stopped down the eyepiece side a bit to improve contrast, though it would have resulted in a smaller clear aperture and more vignetting in wide field eyepieces.3. It is NOT multi-coated at all. Zero anti-reflection coatings on the prisms, despite what the description states. It is noticeably darker than a mirror diagonal.4. Contrast is excellent as long as your eyepiece doesn't capture the stray light on the prism edges. A good mid focal length Plossl or short focal length wide angle would be appropriate to cut off that stray light.5. Sharpness is good and it appears it is well collimated.Bought it to use in a finder scope and can't really complain about the performance in that application. I wouldn't use it as a primary diagonal for astronomical applications.

Almost all my other 1.25" barrel 'correct-image' 90d diagonals have a SMALL Amici prism, which vignettes the field and dims the view with longer FL eyepieces. This one is better made, with nearly the same available field as the barrel diameter; so it works MUCH better. Could not be more pleased! What *does* bother me is the odd disparity of some other reviews of the same item. (I was the Product Development manager at perhaps the largest US telescope accessory retailer/marketer, with 60+ years' experience in amateur astronomy.) MY copy of this Astromania diagonal is NOT 'dimmer' than a mirror unit, as claimed by another party. I have tested it against two name-brand standard aluminized 1.25" mirror star diagonals, and this Astromania prism diagonal seems to be as bright--in fact, it was noticeably brighter than one, and the equal brightness of the other. Did we get the same product?Furthermore, after closely examing my unit's prism under exactly the right angle of broadband light, I can clearly discern an anti-reflection overcoating; the other reviewer says there was NONE, contrary to the ad. Not so in my case.He objected to spurious reflections (which I also do not see) and says that the eyepiece-side should be masked. My unit IS masked. So I have confidence that my eyes did NOT deceive me; and I have no reason to change my top 5-star rate.
