Ah yes, the Autel AL539B—my trusty companion in the thrilling whodunnit of "Where the Hell Is My Range Rover’s Battery Drain Coming From?" Spoiler alert: this little gadget didn’t exactly crack the case, but it played the Watson to my Holmes for a solid 7 hours while I lay in the boot, pulling fuses like a madman. Fun times.First off, it’s a nifty bit of kit, don’t get me wrong. It’s like having a Swiss Army knife for your car, combining an OBD2 scanner, a battery tester, and a multimeter all in one. I mean, it looks the part—flashy enough to impress your mates, but not too complicated to make you feel like you need an engineering degree to operate it. You plug it in, push a few buttons, and hope for the best. And by “best,” I mean it might reset your service lights or tell you the obvious: "Yes mate, your battery’s definitely not feeling great."However, when it came to my mysterious battery drain issue, this thing was about as helpful as asking a magic 8-ball for answers. Despite its "3-in-1" promise, it stopped short of actually doing the one thing I really needed it to—finding the actual bloody fault. But hey, it did offer some entertainment while I ran around in circles, pulling fuses and squinting at numbers on the multimeter screen. Just picture me, swearing in the boot for seven hours, chasing electrical gremlins with this thing in hand. Who said car diagnostics wasn’t glamorous?Where it shines is in the basics. Resetting service lights? Easy. Checking battery voltage? Spot on. Anything more complex? Well, you might as well consult a psychic. It's like a snazzy office assistant that’s really good at making coffee but useless when it comes to solving actual problems. To sum up: Autel AL539B—useful in a pinch, just don’t expect it to solve your Range Rover’s existential crisis. It’s a nice piece of kit if you’re into DIY diagnostics for the smaller stuff. But when it comes to the big mysteries, be prepared for an epic journey of fuse-pulling, head-scratching, and wondering why you didn’t just call the mechanic in the first place.

Well, what can I say. What a brilliant bit of kit. Mostly for cars, obviously, but when it comes to Agri work, wire testing, and battery testing, a must have for the home gamer, or semi professional.....

This has been a great DIY scanner for me since I bought it. I have a cheap code reader which does it's job fine but the more car repairs I do, I wanted something more versatile. I have used the battery and starter/charge tests and it appears very accurate. It was within a few hundredths of a volt compared to my Fluke meter. I really like the Ready test function that gives you all the info you need to make sure the car will pass inspection. I had a lot of fun going through the live data and seeing the health of the fuel trims, O2 sensors, MAP sensor, MAF sensor, etc. I tried out the multimeter functions as well and it seems fine for casual use. It's a nice little add on that may be handy. I think this scanner will give me a lot of good vehicle info I need for troubleshooting things down the road. The scanner is very easy to use and is very intuitive. The menus are simple and easy to navigate or back out of. The screen is bright and easy to use in the sun. I did return the first scanner I bought due to an issue with the placement of one of the soldered navigation buttons. The replacement unit's buttons all work and feel as they should. The scanner feels substantial in weight and toughness. It came with quality test leads, battery test cable, OBDII interface cable, and charging cable. The case is cloth with a double zippered closure. There is a pouch for some of the cables. The Autel logo is embroidered on the front which really looks good. The case is a little cramped after having everything out and then trying to fit it back in. Still it is a very nice accessory. The scanner auto starts when you hook it up to the car which is nice, but just make sure you power it off when you are done or you may have to charge it before you use it the next time. I'm not sure if it has an auto off feature. It seems to stay on a while until I shut it off. I disabled the beep on every button click in the setup menu. This got annoying quickly. If you work on cars now and then, and want something more versatile than code reader without breaking the bank, this is the sweet spot. It may work great for a professional as well. Lots of good information at a reasonable price!
