I've owned several other Baofeng products and although they are a little bit cheesy, they tend to endure pretty harsh use over long periods of time. I purchased two of these, and one of them requires that the antenna be screwed down harder and tighter than I normally would like to in order to have proper electrical contact. Operationally, they are both quite decent in terms of receive sensitivity is better than any other radio the same brand that I've used. My one major gripe, and I have no idea why they did this, is that you have to turn on and off the radio while depressing a key to switch between the vfo and memory channels. I have no idea why they didn't simply use one of the keys to perform this function as they have in virtually every other radio they manufactured. Aside from this, it's a well-made well-constructed and decent operating radio.

This radio has performed very well in all conditions. I don't have to worry about the weather conditions when i am carrying this radio, nor do I have to baby it.Very rugged and reliable!Well worth the investment!

I have several Baofeng Radios at this point, and this is a great upgrade coming from a UV-5R or similar. Rugged chassis feels like I can drop the radio with no issue, decent stock antenna (the newer Baofeng V85 antennas work better), and water resistant. Sensitivity is noticeably better compared to my UV-5R and BF-F8HP. Can easily hit UHF repeater from inside my apartment 15 miles away. Audio reports are also good. Hope there are larger batteries and accessories offered for these radios in the future.Similar radio to the UV-9G which is a GMRS only radio. The UV-9G is legitimately deaf to anything not GMRS, even though it is marketed to RX on Ham bands, NOAA etc.Out of the box this radio will not transmit on GMRS, however, something funny happens when you hold the PTT, Monitor Button, and # button while turning the radio on. Enjoy NotaRubicon Fans! ;-)

Es mentira que puede estar el equipo 30 min a 1 metro de profundidad... me caí del kayak y estuve a lo mucho 10 min en el agua en lo que me volvi a subir e intente en los primeros minutos usarlo ya no servia

I serve with fire service in the Pacific Northwest on the ocean. I needed a radio that was not too expensive that could be used on RWC's (Jetskis). The radio needed to compatible with our service radios that if lost in the water or damaged would not break our budget. At the suggestion of an instructor, I looked into the GT-3WP. The programming was easy with CHIRP. They were not expensive and seemed hefty and durable. We used them for the first time on a rescue in the ocean the other day. I kept mine in the pocket of my life jacket and used the supplied earpiece mic to hear over the wind and engine noise. I was able to have clear communication with our support boat which really increased our capabilities. The radio took some seawater splashes and continued to work flawlessly. Then I was deployed as a rescue swimmer. I wanted to test this radio to the worst conditions so I left everything on and jumped in. After 15 minutes in the seawater, the earpiece mic went into continuous transmission. but the radio continued to function. I had to turn off the radio to stop transmitting. I was in the water for an additional hour and half with the radio in my pocket. Upon return to the station. The radio would not turn on. I thought I destroyed it and left it on my desk for a few days. Several days later, I thought I would try it out. I put it on the charger on it powered on. When I took it off the charger, it failed. I took the battery from my partners radio and it powered on and worked perfectly. I contacted the seller and was able to get a replacement battery and put the radio back in service. My recommendations: excellent radio for this kind of environment. Will handle heavy splashes of seawater and perform excellent. Not for swimming for extended periods of time. I have bought another one and will continue to use these for water rescue.

The radios work very well. The range has been truly incredible. Hand held range finding is very specific to your environment, however I have field tested and used these radios and they work amazingly well. I've been able to get over 7 miles in a semi urban environment (tropics, 85% humidity, clear day) between two raised locations with crystal clear audio. Battery life has been great as well with all day power levels about 40% light to moderate use in heavily rural hiking trails in mountainous territory (tropics, 95% humidity rain forest type setting). For the price these radios are a must buy if you want to have wireless communication without cellular service. Just understand what you're getting, while you can easily equip an entire squad with these radios for the cost of 1 Kenwood with similar range and voice clarity don't expect this radio to operate like the Kenwood in freezing temps for prolonged periods. I was pleasantly surprised at the duty cycle on these radios compared to the more expensive radios. I was able to carry on a normal 2 hour conversation (roughly 30 second transmits followed by 30 seconds receive...a 50% duty cycle) at the 7 mile range and the radios handled it with aplomb without getting excessively hot, just warm (night time tropic ambient temps about 85 Fahrenheit) . I was worried the cheaper components wouldn't be able to handle the heat dissipation but they easily did! If you're going to use this outside in winter in really cold country you'll probably be better off getting the higher end brands but in non freezing temps, this is a fantastically cheap and highly effective alternative to plunking down $450 on a single radio!
