This fake book safe is not a very high quality fake book. The corner got banged up without much abuse. It’s just a thin paper over cardboard, not as good as a real book. The edges are molded white plastic to look like paper. This isn’t going to fool anyone taking a look at the sides. On a shelf, it might pass a cursory glance. The lock box inside is pretty basic, a regular lock box with three digit combination. Nothing fancy, but it does lock. This box is not airtight, not even close.For under $20, this is a decent value. The fireproof bag is really cool. The book safe is functional, good for stuff that isn’t especially valuable, but that you don’t want in the open. It’s nit the most realistic book, but on a shelf with other books where only the binding is showing, it’s adequate.

I got this for my mom and she loves it. It blends in great with her other cook books.

I've thought book safes, or hollowed-out books, were the coolest things since seeing them in classic old black-and-white movies. Hiding your secrets in plain sight is an effective, time-honored strategy. When I was a kid, I tried making a hollowed-out book with a knife and an old book, but the result was pretty pathetic. Well, now kids everywhere, not to mention adults, can rejoice--this is one nice ready-made hollowed-out book safe!It is passable for a book on the outside, although the "pages" show what appears to be a very poor bookbinding job. The pages themselves are just a sheet of white plastic, molded to look like the pages of a book. It can be stuck in a dark corner of a book shelf and be inconspicuous. The inside holds a steel safe with a 3-digit combination lock. This is a very simple affair that should not be used in the C.I.A. library, but it'll do the job in an unknown person's home. (This lock can be easily defeated.) I just leave it with the default 0-0-0 combination set at the factory. If K.G.B. spies find my book, the combination will not matter--they'll break it open.This can be used to stash your emergency cash and a few gold bars (which will make for a heavy book), or some jewelry. Uses are limited only by your imagination. It also comes with a nice, small fire-resistant pouch that fits inside. I only wish this had been available back in my childhood days, but better late than never.
