You get two of these little treasures for practically nothing. Solid and attractive with a hole in the top where you can tie a piece of ribbon or yarn in case the ruler slides down into the book. As another reviewer said these are handy for a person who is obsessive about making straight underlines in books.I experimented by placing this in several kinds of books. I didn't see that it wanted to slide out of a mass market paperback, but to be sure you need to push it in firmly. It didn't slide out, but could in luggage if you don't store the book spine down.Brass darkens, naturally but you can always clean it. There are things you can coat brass with that keep it from darkening, but I think it is easier to clean it with Brasso or something like it.I am definitely buying more.
