Its a solid camera for the price but it is kind of falsely advertised, the only program this works with is sharpcap, and it only works for planetary imaging so if that's all you're doing then this is perfect for you.

This review is fair warning to those into deep sky astrophotography, looking for an affordable telescope camera for deep sky photography. I've taking some impressive photos with my DSLR but the payload is almost 11 pounds with the counterweight. So the Nova800's resolution, price, and removable IR filter was sounding great!!Summary: It's just not doable. Maybe (and I say maybe) it could be used as a guide camera.Max 1-second exposure: The camera maxes out at 1 second exposures. No way around it, I tried. That means it won't detect many (if any) stars. Essentially 95% of my frames were discarded or not stackable even with gain and brightness settings maxed out.Narrow Field of View: Narrow FOV due to the small sensor, the Nova800's FOV can only display distant objects (like the pinwheel galaxy, cigar galaxy), not the sun, moon or larger more popular galaxies and nebulae. You won't even get the full moon in a single frame unless your telescope is the size of binoculars maybe.Software: Limited app compatibility; it works with SharpCap for captures and settings adjustments. Other apps like N.I.N.A., etc. won't detect the camera. The free version of SharpCap is actually pretty robust, but the limitations of the exposure time is the deal breaker here for DSO.I'd say this camera is best for someone with a Dob telescope for capturing planets. I'd also say this camera would be really nice for full-light terrestrial photos (birds, mountains, trees). But, my iPhone connected to my scope does a better job at photographing the moon.I'm aware that it's designed and advertised for "Planets" but I wanted to save any DSO hobbyists excitement or anticipation that it can replace a DSLR.

I liked that it feels solid. All metal construction. I also appreciated the inclusion of a removeable IR filter in the standard 1 25 inch eyepiece filter format. I was able get some great close up images of the Waxing Moon with the Nova800 & my Celestron NexStar 6SE. I took the shots during the Northern Lights that appeared further south because of heavy solar activity. You can see the colors in the shots of the moon. I liked how it was not only plug & play with no aditional drivers but Windows 10 was able to Identify it as a Nova800 & not just a generic webcam. I will try it with planets & deep space objects later in the year. So far I'm pleased with the camera. Especially for the price. An 8Mp 4K camera is unheard of at this price.

I generally dislike when sellers are not clear on what a product can do. I ordered this with realistic expectations of what I would be able to get out of it. I was only able to get it to work with the windows camera app and it was very limited on what settings could be changed. When they stated it would work with 3rd party professional astronomy software I assumed that it would work with N.I.N.A or other popular software, IT DOES NOT WORK WITH ANY ASTRONOMY software even the two they directly state in the manual page in the box. I did return mine because you just can't easily use an astronomy camera which only is supported by windows camera app.With the above being said I did want to be fair and speak of the quality of the camera. Others stated was low quality and a complete ripoff. Though It will not work for my purposes I did want to point out the following good things:- It came well packaged and with clearly marked specifications.- Construction quality seemed very good for price.- Image quality was clear but defaulted to 1920 by 1080 and you had to force it to the 4k res each time you loaded it (again only thing supported it was windows camera).- It was a cloudy night and I have a high magnification scope so only thing I could focus on was a mailbox light a half mile away, in the dark. But it was able to show the fixture and not over saturate from the 3 light bulbs.Probably would be great for kids with a starter scope looking at the moon and possibly Saturn or Jupiter. Suspect it would be great birdwatching with a spotter scope that used 1.25 eyepieces.

I intend to use it instead of a 1.25" eyepiece, on a variety of telescopes, with an 11" iPad Pro M4 as a monitor so more people can see the images, especially inexperienced viewers who have trouble using eyepieces. I added an USBA to USBC adapter to plug it in to my 11" iPad Pro M4.The "Dongled" app immediately recognizes and displays the camera but has no control over the camera; it just displays an image. Much better is the "CamX" app, which has settings for the displayed brightness, contrast, gain, saturation, zoom, & orientation, which are captured on video and still images. Even better, the "CamX" app communicates with, and has settings for the camera, including resolution, frame rate, compression codec "format", and buttons for still capture and video capture. I can set 420v Raw 3264 x 2448 at 1 fps for stills. I can set 420f compressed 3264x2448 at 15 fps for video. These are my first impressions.The color cast of the camera seems to have a faint magenta to green gradient based on low light exposure right now. That is why I give it only 4 stars. This may be operator error, however. I have to play more with the display settings when I'm using it on a stars and planets at night.Telescopes being tested include old non-ai Nikkor telephotos from 500mm to 135mm, sometimes with with a 2X teleconvertor, and an F to 1.25" eyepiece adapter.Because this high res sensor is small at 1/3.2" the apparent magnification on these telephotos is impressive. In general small sensors' tiny pixels should have more noise than my Z6's big pixels, but atmospheric irregularity is generally a bigger problem.
