I've returned to Rico reeds after decades. Like many of the reviewers, I was always under the impression Rico reeds are for beginners, not consistent from one reed to another and that they don't produce good sound quality. They're what i played until middle school (decades ago) when I switched to Royal reeds. Recently, I watched a YouTube review where the reviewer explained Rico and LaVoz reeds (historically played by many professionals) are the exact same reeds. I bought some Rico reeds and found no difference. Rico reeds are excellent reeds for all level players. They are among my favorites. I read Amazon reviews saying they don't last, are of poor quality, smell, do/don't produce a bad smell, etc. After playing dozens of reed brands over the years, I can say none of that it true. These reeds are top level reeds at a price way lower than what they could be. There's no down side to these reeds.

Too expensive for kids, it's $4.4 for each. This is not right.

This is a great starter reed. I would start with a 2 1/2 reed first and then progress onto a 3 reed. This is a very, good brand of reed to use.If you want to have you reeds last longer I would suggest you prepare them before you use them then. You will soak them in water for awhile, then after you think a good amount of time has gone by you will take them out of the water and squeeze out all the water. The best way to do that is put the reed on a mirror and rub the reed till all the water is out.You do this because, the fibers of the reed separate from being left all dried up in a box, with no idea how long its been like that. So soaking it makes the fibers swell and getting rid of the water makes the fibers go together again. When I do this my reed's last 10x longer then normal. But anyways, this is a awesome reed to buy and so much cheaper to buy them online instead of at a music store. You will save tons of money.
