You do have to wrap this around your finger a bit to make sure it stays. Though the description says “tape” there isn’t any adhesive (which I like) but rather it adheres to itself. Instructions are included and helpful. The first time I tried this I used a lesser amount of “tape” and it slid off my finger. The second time I used more and wrapped it around more of my finger and it worked for what I needed it for. I prefer to use a sewing machine, so won’t use this much - but it is helpful if you have issues gripping things when hand sewing.

I have mixed feelings about this thimble tape. I love that I can cover one or multiple finger when hand sewing, and the material does a good job of sticking to itself. It works really well on the pad of the finger, but doesn't always wrap well around the tip, often catching on the fabric or grabbing the thread. It does work to protect your fingers from being pricked, but you can't push with as much for as you would with a thicker pad or a traditional thimble. Wrapping the material thicker does allow you to push harder, but at the expense of dexterity.

I haven't found a thimble alternative yet that protects my fingers but still lets me work with the dexterity I need for my craft projects. This one has a lot of potential, but it’s not quite the perfect fit for me yet. It didn’t stay on my finger very well—either because it was a bit too wide to wrap around my fingertip or maybe it's not sticky enough, or the material could use a bit more stretch. Still, I think it's a cool idea, and I’ll keep it in my craft supplies, hoping I can find a way to make it work.

ASIN: B0DS6KQ372 $8.99Thimble Tape for Hand Sewing - Fully Adjustable Nail & Finger Protector - A Smarter Alternative to Classic Knitting Thimbles - Sunshine, 2-PackSo, I tried the product out and it works as described. I think it will be great for things like knitting, crochet, and embroidery where the needles are on the larger, thicker side. But I hand quilt and Betweens are both very fine and very sharp. In addition, Sharps are SHARP, and Straw needles--both sharps and straws are used for piecing--are both fine and sharp. I've been using adhesive leather for years, first the dots you can buy and now my own cuttings from adhesive suede (intended for the bottoms of dance shoes). I think the dots give me more flexibility and better "feel," without any chance that a really fine, sharp needle will penetrate. So while this is a great product, it's not really right for me. Nevertheless, I'll be happy to keep it in my sewing arsenal.

This is a very cool tool for your sewing kit. It's not perfect, but it does really help prevent finger pricks. I wouldn't use it to push your needle through really tough fabric, because it can get through, but for your everyday stitch jobs it's great. You do have to use quite a bit of it to get a real good barrier, but the little thimble you make out of it is infinitely reusable. It doesn't stick to your finger, just to itself so you can slide it off and keep it when you're done. Great stuff.
