They really work well, keep food very cold for hours and appreciate that the design includes a handle on the ice pack.

The mixing process is really a bit labor-intensive to get it done right. Also, mine was pretty well mixed. I was very diligent but I still tired out and had some air gaps that I think could possibly affect its cooling capacity. I’m just not sure the company thinks it’s OK.

The included instructions are good, but here are a couple details I had to figure out:1. You have to bend the small end of the silicone funnel to fit. That's a good thing, because it holds it in there pretty well. You'll still want to be careful not to knock it out.2. Have your 1 cup + 6 cups water measured and ready to pour from containers that will not spill. The funnel empties slowly so it will be a slow pour.3. The only part you need to do sort of quickly is after pouring the first cup of water, immediately cap it and shake vigorously to mix up the water and powder. If you take too long you could get unmixed powder stuck in a corner or in the handle.4. When pushing on the center of the pack to get air out, you won't literally be pushing our all the air, because the shoulders of the pack are a little higher than the spout. Just keep an eye on gently pushing water up to the spout, and cap it tightly while holding it there.

We just got these in last night, so I can't give my review of whether these work well or not. However; I do have to note that the powder in these cooler packs did not mix well. We followed the directions on each one. We ordered two large double packs, and not one of these four packs would mixed thoroughly. Both my husband and myself shook these things vigorously. We rocked these packs back and forth desperately, trying to get the powder to distribute evenly througout the hard pack. What we did find, is that the powder remained stuck in the corners and in the handles of the packs. Each one a bit differently, some worse than others. We tried calling Amazon product support, but of two gentlemen that we spoke with, neither could even verify that we had an account nor that we made any recent activity. To me, that threw up a red flag, as we obviously, just had activity since we received our order that we purchased. That may be a whole other issue for Amazon customer support to address separately. My issue is that we had simple questions that need to be answered and there is no one that can address this and give us solutions. Can we use these like this? Will they still work properly if the powder hasn't mixed in it's entirety? Can we go ahead and freeze them like this or do we need to fix this before we do that? If it can be fixed, how? If not, should we return them as a defective product? I have questions that need answering, but there is no one that can help us. There is no contact phone number for Cooler Shock. Amazon can't even pull up our account, to help us with this, which makes me wonder if its really even Amazon that we are speaking with. It shouldn't be this difficult to troubleshoot a product that we just purchased.Once I get answers and can find out how to proceed, I will come back and give this a fair review. Until then, I can't give this a good rating since I simply can't get past this issue on whether or not the product is somehow compromised, due to the powder not mixing.

So I’m writing this review before freezing and using.I read other reviews mentioning difficulty opening to fill. I was expecting to have difficulties since I often need help with child-proof lids. However I had no trouble at all with these. Maybe some get cross threaded, making them more difficult.I’m glad I ordered the clear, because it really helped me see what was going on.I added photos to help you see. Each ice pack comes with the dried gel powder. The directions say to tip the pack so the powder isn’t in the handle. Then add 1 cup of water & shake to dissolve powder. It did take quite a bit of shaking to completely dissolve all the clumps and be sure they (dry clumps) were out of the Handle area.Notice in my photos that the funnel nozzle is in fact too large, as others have mentioned. I had to kind of fold it to get it in the mouth of the ice pack. Then you’ll see in the last photo, looking down inside, that it creates a bump to slow down the flow of water. It may be better to just pour straight from a container with a pour spout. I did have a small funnel that fit, so I used that instead of the one provided. After fiddling with the rubber funnel, the gel had really thickened up quite a bit. So next the instructions have you pour in the remaining 6 cups of water. Squeeze gently till water comes to top of mouth of ice pack Screw on the lid and shake for one minute. I did set a timer on the stove. Because fiddling with the funnel took extra time, the 1 cup of gelled water was so thick, it did take me more than the minute to get it all incorporated into all the water evenly. Again- I’m really glad I got clear, so I could see what I was doing! If it’s not all mixed in completely, I wonder if that can affect the performance of holding the cold.Anyway, there was still air pockets in the shoulders of the bottle when closing the lid.I repeated the process (minus using their funnel) with the second pack and without the extra set time from fiddling with their funnel, it was much easier mixing in the remaining 6 cups of water.I left both packs laying on the counter a while to show my husband, before freezing. When I showed him later, the gel had fully absorbed the water & completely filled all remaining air space inside. It was no longer liquidy or sloshy. Now they’re in the freezer and we shall see on another day how they do keeping things cold in a cooler.
