Square D by Schneider Electric Homeline Plug-on Circuit Breaker

15 Amp Single-Pole Dual Function (CAFCI and GFCI)

Combine two critical technologies – Combination Arc Fault protection (CAFCI) and Ground Fault protection (GFCI) – in a single, easy-to-install circuit breaker.

Dual Function

The Square D by Schneider Electric Homeline Dual Function Circuit Breaker is a space and labor saving device engineered to meet prevailing National Electrical Code requirements. This device combines two critical technologies – Combination Arc Fault protection (CAFCI) and Ground Fault (GFCI) protection – in a single, easy-to-install circuit breaker. The National Electric Code now requires both CAFCI and GFCI protection on all 1-Pole, 15 Amp and 20 Amp kitchen and laundry circuits. Prior to the release of Square D’s Homeline Dual Function Circuit Breakers, a contractor or homeowner's only choice would have been to use a Combination Arc Fault circuit breaker in conjunction with an expensive, bulky GFCI receptacle.

The new Dual Function circuit breakers help reduce cost and eliminate the hassle of using two separate devices to provide the critical electrical protection against arc fault and ground fault hazards in the home.

Provide enhanced protection against home electrical fires

The Square D by Schneider Electric Dual Function (DF) help protect wires from arcing faults and is intended for overload and short-circuits protection of your electrical system. Unlike standard thermal-magnetic circuit breakers that cannot detect dangerous arcs, DF circuit breakers detect both series and parallel the entire circuit before a fire starts. Advanced electronic technology monitors the circuit for the presence of dangerous arcing conditions. If such conditions are observed, the circuit breaker trips, cutting off the current and voltage to the arc fault which helps to keep people and property safe.

Square D Dual Function Circuit Breakers are the first commercially available circuit breaker designed to meet the National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements for Combination AFCI protection. They provide the highest level of arc fault protection on the market today, protecting against both serial and parallel arcs for the entire circuit. An arc fault occurs when electricity is unintentionally released from home wiring, cords, or appliances because of damage or improper installation. This release of electricity can cause surrounding material to catch fire. According to the National Fire Protection Association, electrical arcing is the source of ignition in more than 30,000 fires each year. These fires cause hundreds of deaths and injuries and more than $750 million in direct property damage.

Benefits:

  • Saves money: Lower cost than purchasing two separate devices.
  • Easy-to-use: Advanced trip indication technology saves time by providing circuit information at the touch of a button.
  • Safe: Square D DF circuit breakers detect a wider range and increased number of arc faults than a standard circuit breaker, improving the safety of an electrical system.
  • Reliable: Engineered with the quality and craftsmanship that have made Square D the preferred brand of electricians and homeowners for over 50 years.
  • Saves space and easy to install: Square D Dual Function Circuit Breakers combine Combination Arc Fault and Ground Fault protection in one small device. This eliminates the need to buy two separate devices, and reduces the labor time needed for installation.

TIME SAVER Diagnostics shows why a trip occurred

TIME SAVER Diagnostics helps take away the guesswork and provides diagnostic assistance at the touch of a button in the unlikely event a trip should occur. By identifying the type of fault that has occurred, it improves troubleshooting time and helps contractors and homeowners identify the trip cause faster.. The TIME SAVER Diagnostics sequence is simple and easy to use, and requires no tools or special training. Simply turn off the circuit breaker, hold down the Push-To-Test button, and then turn the circuit breaker back on.

I have a 72-year-old house with ungrounded (2 wire) electric outlets. Using these is easier and cheaper than changing out all the wiring in the house. You'll need to use these if you install new grounded receptacles.
