First time I wore the socks a hole opened up between the ankle and heel sections. Now granted that the first time I wore the socks was in a 100 mile race - Run Rabbit Run 100 in Steamboat Springs, CO. I never have had a pair of socks fail in this way and I am not sure when during the 30 or so hours I was out on the trail that the hole developed. I contacted the company and they requested that I sent a picture of the damaged area which I promptly did and they said thy would get back with me. After a week or 10 days I received an email from them with instructions on how to get a replacement pair. This involved downloading and filling out a form and sending the form (with tracking) and socks to them via USPS, and waiting a long time and once my request was processed they would email me a credit which I could use on their website to pickup a replacement pair. So this whole return process earns them a 3 star rating. Why not a 1 star rating? Because the socks they manufacture are absolutely awesome. I love them and will continue to purchase them but if and when they get a hole or whatever I will either repair it myself of throw them away. I have other pairs from them that have been working for me very well and the hole as seen in the picture I regard as a fluke. I'll sew it up and use that pair too. They are the best running sock I have used for many years.

Depending on the shoe manufacturer I am a 9.5 or 10. For Darn Tough I can wear the medium size but they are quite snug so I would suggest getting a Large.
