I keep one of these in each of my toolboxes in my truck to keep moisture down and reduce corrosion and other condensation damage. Works well for this. Being reusable is a big plus!

Replaced flexible plastic window with 1mm thickness acrylic sheet with a hole of 1.8mm in it's center. Now u just need 1.5mm punch (ball-punch preferred) to go deep in it and with other hand pull the top cover out to reuse the silica gel.

Items arrived on time and with intact packaging. Although they were sealed in its factory Saran-wrap type of wrapping (to keep the moisture out), the indicator already showed some green, indicating that the units needed to be "recharged" by placing them into an oven for 2-3 h. Thus I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Fortunately the recharging should be almost limitless.

I don't know why so many strange reviews about difficulty of use, poor product, not effective, etc.I am a retired Chemical Engineer with lots of experience with desiccants. Sodium silicate is the absolute easiest and safest desiccant to use. A little knowledge of high school chemistry will tell you this (if you bothered with science). The product was well packaged and ready for use (dry). A bit of light when looking through the window at the desiccant will show you the color; without external lighting, the color is very difficult to discern through the very small window. The desiccant can be regenerated at a relatively low temperature (250-275F or so). Testing this by adding liquid water and then heating to evaluate the regeneration can result in unfortunate and/or dangerous results, particularly at temperatures in excess of the recommended maximum. If you don't understand simple high school chemistry or physics (or common sense), don't use anhydrous sodium silicate. THINK!

Not all desiccant pks are created equal, but these seem to work quite well so far. I have used others and these measure up to them in my safes and ammo cans.I noticed in some of the reviews that there were complaints that the "windows" were all black/clouded and thus no good when they were received. All of mine so far have had dark windows, but under a stronger light source (such as a penlight) they actually show the bead colors. And not all color reactions are the same -- refer to the printing on the pks. I've included a comparison photo that shows what I've just described. Hope this helps others before they discard/return pks as defective.
