I like the fact that it comes with 3 different sized barbed nipples that are easily screwed into the pump. The smaller it is the higher the pressure and, thus, the higher the lift. I put it in my tub with 7"/17mm of water and, with no nipple on max pressure, it made the water roil merrily. With the smallest nipple and max pressure, it was able to lift the water 5"/13mm. Keep in mind that I didn't use a tube and it was pushing past the layer of water above it in both cases. Surprisingly, even when I set the pressure to minimum (which completely blocks the vents on the one side), the drop in lift wasn't that big.Overall, as long as this thing lasts a long time, I can easily see it being used in aquariums and ponds (with appropriate filtration to keep gunk out), but it's probably best in a situation where the water is clear of debris.

This is a very well functioning, quiet, and powerful little pump. It comes with a variety of nozzle adapters, and the hose was plenty long for my purposes. It moves water pretty quickly, for it's size, which is 3.3 x 2.0 x 2.8 inches. It is quite versatile and could be used for a variety of purposes, even if you don't have a pond or aquarium.Here is how I am using it: I like to hand-wash or sometime soak my clothes when I do laundry, and I do this in 5-gallon buckets. If you soak your clothes before washing, they don't need as much agitation. Since I handwash a lot of items, I often have two or three 5-gallon buckets with water in them at one time. I don't have the best knees and back, however, and I needed a way to empty them without having to lift these heavy buckets. This pump has worked great! I just place it into the bucket I want to empty, and the water gets pumped out quickly and effortlessly. I place the end of the hose into sink to drain. It makes handwashing clothes SO much easier and less tiring! Highly recommend!

Many applications including ponds, aquariums, hydroponics. Good quality, well built, and powerful with a variable flow rate. Comes with a variety of nozzles and safety shut-off. Good price point.
