This pick is advertised for mandolins but I think they are great for gypsy jazz guitar (and basically any other guitar style too). I did a bit of a search for suitable picks and this Dunlop Americana is shown compared to several other picks, including the Dunlop Flow (3mm thickness) and Dunlop Prime Grip (2mm thick). For reference a standard Fender pick is shown, as well as a couple of larger triangular picks. It also shows a couple of larger triangular picks. The paper grid divisions are 0.2 inches. Despite being described as "Jumbo", the 3mm Dunlop Flow pick is exactly the same outline as a standard Fender pick.I personally don't like the feel of those larger picks but this is a personal preference, and if you like larger picks I suggest trying the D'Andrea Plec (1.5mm thickness). The Dunlop Americana are 1.6mm thick (I measured it). Plenty thick enough that there's no flexing at all. The curvature seems to be exactly the same as the Fender standard pick along the top edge, and the pick is fully symmetric - about 0.1 inches wider, and 0.1 inches shorter than the Fender standard. The stiffness allows excellent articulation when soloing as well as very meaty strumming, and the rounded corners support tremolando strumming.The pick is made of polycarbonate, and I don't know if that's why, but I think it produces a better tone than the Dunlop Flow and Prime Grip picks. I think they are a bit pricey at $2.67 per pick, but they should last forever if you don't lose them.

I tried playing mandolin for years with guitar picks. These picks were a game changer.

For decades I have used thin picks with a rough traction-grip surface. I thought these would be the easiest and fastest. I have never been satisfied with my picking. I drop 'em. They spin in my grasp. It's just very frustrating! I complained out loud during a jam session with my guitar buddies and Steve handed me a very thick "Dawg" pick; "Here...Try this." Bingo! No more problems and a better sound too! The Dawg was a bit large, so I tried these Jim Dunlop picks after reading a review in a guitar trade magazine. It compared the Dawg and these Dunlop picks. I bought the Dunlops and Bang! Another revelation! These are GREAT. They're easy to handle and control. The thickness gives you a nice powerful, but soft dense sound which I like; Very sweet indeed. I do a lot of cross picking and very little straight strumming so take that into consideration when thinking through this review. These are my go-to picks... Forever!

Just what I hoped these picks would be like I use Jim Dunlop picks for both acoustic and electric guitar these I wanted to try for mandolin cost a little more but I imagine a smaller production run so well worth the price
