Bought this to use for storing VP Racing fuel - requiring a metal container to prevent the fuel from degrading over time. When I received it, I realized that it would be almost impossible to transfer fuel from another can, or even fill from a pump nozzle, without have a second person hold the spring-loaded fill cap open.Chose another option that was also California-compliant but can be operated by a single person.

I bought 2 of these based on the good reviews I read and I'm now disappointed. The good: solid construction, excelent overall quality with perhaps the exception of the paint finish which is good but not great. The bad: the filler hole is too small to comfortably fill the can at the gas station without having to hold the hose in an awkward position to fit it just inside the short and narrow neck. The spring holding the lid of the filler neck is very strong so it makes it almost impossible to hold the lid open, pull back on the rubber piece so the gas will not cut off, and insert the gas nozzle into the can - all at the same time. I resorted to jamming a short piece of round dowel to keep the lid open while filling. The yellow handle on the can is also awkward to operate without putting your hand in the way of the mechanism - it's doable, but uncomfortable. The metal one is worse and I know this because the 2 gallon can I got at the same time I bought this came with a metal handle. Also, get the 7/8 flex spout because the 5/8 spout that came with this one is too small and it pours very slowly. Would I buy it again? No. I'm keeping them and they will serve the purpose but I will be annoyed by this and that every time I use them. One last thing: the lid seals well but it will leak if you tip the can enough. Other than that is leak proof as advertised and the flex spout does not leak at all. Sometimes buying items made in the USA is not a guarantee of good design and quality - just saying.

So far this can works very well. The 5/8's filler allows you to refill an automobile without spilling. easy to fill as the gas pump. I bought this can and the JustRite Accuflow 5 gal can at the same time for a comparison. I like the Eagle safety can spout much more compared to the Justrite AccuFlow (7250120). The Justrite requires you to bolt on the filler spout and one of the bolts wasn't in the packaging. That was a pain to drive to the hardware store for a bolt just to attach the pour spout. The Eagle can is about 1-1/2 inches larger in diameter and 2 inches shorter compared to the JustRite Can. In the back of the truck the Eagle can remains stable in turns and doesn't fall over. Also, made in the USA. I'd give it six stars if I could.

I was excited to get this can, but very disappointed when it arrived. I haven't filled it, and intend to send it back, if possible. If OSHA or UL standards mandated this design, then I don't think much of their regulations. My hands are long and slender. The silver valve pull handle it is too close to the fixed (red) handle to get a good grip. I can't get enough leverage to open the spring loaded valve and vent. Is the government so obsessed with stopping every last drop of evaporation, that they prefer I drop a full can of fuel on the pavement while fumbling around with this setup? What is wrong with an old fashioned screw cap for filling and a vent?Even filling the can is problematic. I would have to steady the empty can with one hand or my feet, lift the spring loaded vent/fill cap with the other, and insert the service station nozzle with my third hand. Considering how much this can costs, that's a lot of inconvenience.NY State has banned NATO style Jerry cans (for who knows what reason), so I am left with the cheap plastic cans sold here. They leak around the nozzle. The accordion design nozzle breaks and catches on the fuel filler hole..I suppose this can is carefully built to the required standards, but it came with a small dent on the upper part of the tank.I sympathize with the manufacturer and distributor, who are trying to deal with government regulations, but I still have to give the can two stars.
