Le doy cinco estrellas porque el libro llegó antes del tiempo estimado y en perfectas condiciones, en cuanto al artículo es el que necesitaba, es una versión económica pero bonita, la pasta es blanda pero viene a modo de separador para ir guardando los avances -en páginas- que se tenga de la lectura, el precio sin duda fue muy bueno y reitero el excelente servicio no sólo en el procesamiento de mi pedido, sino también en la entrega del mismo. Un gran libro para ser leído por mexicanos y amantes de la literatura. La edición es muy bonita. Llegó a tiempo, en perfecto estado. Los otros libros del mismo autor tienen una presentación en colores blanco y rojo, jugando con los colores de la bandera mexicana. El libro tardó en llegar, supongo que se agotó. El libro huele a buena tinta y la textura de los forros es mate, lo que lo convierte en un libro elegante y limpio. Excelente regalo. Llegó en perfecto estado.

I'll be honest. I started this book six months ago and found the first few stories didn't grab me. Then I picked it up this week and couldn't put it down.The stories come in all sort of themes. There is the boy (Macario) who kept eating so he would stay alive and couldn't die because his godmother kept threatening that he will to purgatory instead of going to heaven to see his parents. A traveller stops in the bar in the driest place on earth and is offered the mescal that won't let him leave (Luvina). Then there is the very surreal and amusing incident of a man, Lucas who visited by the group of women who want a local to be sainted although Lucas claims otherwise (Anecleto Morones) and the ending delivers a good laugh. The longest story and the one this collection is named for is a gritty story set during the Mexican Revolution and we find that even if your father was on one side, it meant you would be punished as well, despite whatever your views.Most of the stories are short and the full of twists. Rulfo's pace is wonderful, often filling the stories with atmosphere and mood, so one knows that something was about to happen but you just didn't know what. After reading this collection of stories, and of course his novel, "Pedro Paramo", one can see how this major Mexican writer influenced Gabriel Garcia Marquez.Lastly, I have a small translation quibble. The English book is known as "The Burning Plain" but it literally reads as "The Plain in Flames" which has a closer style of alliteration of the "ll", "e" and "a" of "El llano en llamas".
