So far they are fine. I'll test the solar capabilities tonight. They say the candles can be screwed in so they don't get knocked off BUT it doesn't come with the screws.

i planned to put these on shepherds hooks in backyard. its very hot here, & we have heavy winds almost every day. after reading reviews, my hubby came up with a plan: he used clear silicone to mount the base of the candles to the base of the lantern. can still access to change batteries, and the candles are completely secure!! i would recommend and i will reorder!!

One of the candles quit working and there’s no way to open it to fix it.

LIKES: 1. I used this for Halloween in NY, and it worked well, overall. It turns off/on automatically, which is great. 2. The advertisement says it has 2 flame settings, but I have to re-examine that. I have only tried one, but it was a considerable glow, and I was happy with the output. 3. I used it outdoors and I saw very little rust at the end of the month (October/Halloween season). 4. If you use these lanterns indoors (like in a bay window or on a mantle or table), this is a 5-star product.DISLIKES: 1. You DEFINITELY have to charge them more often than solar lights I have previously purchased, so I took away a star for that. It's a bit of a pain to keep bringing them in weekly to re-charge. 2. I used mine outdoors, and there is no plastic or glass to house the lantern. The candle part and the lantern fixture are both very lightweight and the candles do not sit and settle into the lantern housing securely. So, depending on the weather where you live, you definitely run a risk of seeing the whole thing topple over or finding the candle part blown onto the lawn. I used black zip-ties to inconspicuously secure the lantern housing to the railing along my porch steps, so at least that that part always remained secure. This allowed me to remove the candle part for charging as necessary and reduce the number of blow-away mishaps. If the candle prongs were longer, they would sit more securely into the lantern housing and there would be less issues on windy days (it only happened 2-3x, but worth mentioning). 3. The charger has THREE plugs, so it feels like there should be a 3rd lantern included (either a larger one or a middle-size between these two. You'll see what I mean if you buy it. It's definitely weird.). Only two lanterns are included for this price, but I would rather pay an extra $10-15 and get three lanterns.

I was very, very skeptical about these lanterns. But took a chance. Reasonably priced. And I wanted to try the flame vs flickering candles. Unpacked, read the instructions. Charged with USB cables. I am quite pleasantly pleased. The candles are bright. Flicker well and really flicker on the flame mode. Now granted, these lanterns are open without glass. The weather may affect the candles after a while. But for the price, I will enjoy as long as they keep working.
