I was pleasantly surprised that the filter, according to the app, didn’t need to be changed exactly at three month mark. The problem I had was near the end of its life, the filter was no longer connecting to Bluetooth and the app was extrapolating how much life was left based on previous use. I’m assuming whatever battery was on the mechanism that keeps track of the filter’s life had run out of juice.Even though they’re more expensive that the regular filters, if they’re accurate on letting you know when it’s time to change them, it’s worth it.

The distinguishing feature of this filter is that it connects to an app that tells you when it needs to be changed. As you’d expect from Filtrete, it’s a great filter. Unfortunately, the thing won’t pair. I’m on my 3rd one and have had to change them by marking my calendar because the Bluetooth doesn’t work. I got the first one to pair for about a week, but **once the connection is lost, there is no way to pair it again**. I honestly can’t believe they didn’t think about that and haven’t fixed it, but when you pull the tab to activate it, it goes into pairing mode. That is the only time it will/can do this. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Filtrete and it was a waste. They couldn’t help me and never emailed me or contacted me like they committed to. Don’t waste an extra 50 cents on this feature because its garbage. The filter alone deserves a higher rating, but I feel like people shopping for this are interested in the smart feature so a 1-star rating it is!

Apparently some one in marketing felt that an air filter needs to be connected to an mobile application. WHY?!!? Now that Filtrete added this plastic contraption it no longer fits the narrow 1 inch space for the air filter. It's glued on so you need to be careful you don't damage the filter trying to remove it. I know how to look at a calendar and write in reminders to change things out, such as an air filter. I don't need to rely on technology.
