Used to hang bear bag on a hike. Very durable. Easy to see at night.

After a recent outing in which we encountered some gnarly weather, I was looking for something small and compact to better tie dining flys, tarps, etc. This is perfect. Although probably not strong enough to hold any significant weight, it's works quite well to secure anything that shouldn't fly away and keep things tied down well. It's stronger than any paracord I've previously used and the small locking carabiner is actually quite nice - I didn't think I needed one, but I've found that I really like this carabiner and it's easy to use as a clip after tying it to the end of the line, for easy attaching and detaching.

A good length of rope is something every prepared person should have in multiple places: paracord with camp gear, 1/2" nylon for odd rigging needs, and a utility rope in the trunk and in the garage for all manner of tie-down needs/emergencies. Of these, the paracord probably gets the most use but the utility rope is the most important because, in a pinch, it can usually sub in for the other two. With that out of the way, this is a really good option for anyone needing a utility rope. Its 1/4" diameter -- just right for utility purposes. Not too thin for work uses (like paracord is) and not too think to handle in normal use (like 1/2" plus can be). Its 50' long - the minimum you should buy/carry and a good length for storing away (50' will meet most needs outside of rescue scenarios and the 1/4" diameter stows small), its paracord style (meaning woven from individual inner strands for strength, comfort, and additional utility), and includes reflective strands for visibility. They even include a handy utility carabiner (ie: NOT for climbing) to increase connectivity options. (Hint: Pre-tie the working end of the rope to the biner with a sturdy knot to make initial tie-up quick and easy when you do need it. Don't hook the biner to your load -- run it through and then hook the biner to rope as you proceed to tie off the bitter end.Personally, I'd replace this biner with a tie-down assist from Nite-Ize (say, the Figure 9) but that's just me.)Most would think there's not a lot to consider to a rope. But that would be most people who've not had to use rope often or in emergencies. These are the folk who buy that $6 nylon rope from a big box store and then regret it every time they try to use it. Rope is one of those things where you just shouldn't skimp. Get a good one and be happy for years. Recommended.

Campers and outdoors people alike know the benefits of always having some cordage around. I have always carried 550 paracord because it was readily available and comes in a myriad of colors. I always chose bright colors like fluorescent orange so they can be seem easily and you don't accidentally walk into the like you strung up to dry your towels or swim clothes. The problem with that is that they always end up looking dirty and dingy. This black paracord from Gear Aid solves all that; the cord is black but has reflective sections woven into it so its less prone to looking dingy and dirty yet still easily seen. I also like that it is twice the strength of the 550 paracord and the extra girth actually makes it easier to get a good hold on it when you want to tie something down or really want to get the stretch out of a clothesline. The extra light duty carabiner is also a nice little extra. While this will not replace 550 paracord, this is a nice complement that I will add to my road trip box. I can't count the times that just some extra cordage has saved our outings or camping trips. In fact, we were able to save a camping trip when we somehow forgot to pack the poles to the tent. With the extra cordage, we were able to put the tent up using the surrounding trees.

Hi ..I am impressed, and pleased, with this GEAR AID paracord for its usefulness, its strength, and surprisingly, it’s safety. More on that last point in a bit.The 50’ length, with its included carabiner, weighs in at only slightly more than ten ounces. For me, that represents a great deal of “save your bacon” potential in a lightweight, easy to store package. When it arrived, the (never to look so perfectly neat again) wound length of cord measured approximately 7.5” by 2”. The bundle is small enough to fit in a side pocket of a backpack and light enough to convince you to add it in.This reflective thread built into this paracord is exceptionally bright when lit up by a flashlight in the dark. I own high visibility vests and clothing that incorporate 3M Scotchlite material and, when lit by a flashlight beam at the right angle, the reflective thread in this paracord rivals my vests’ brightness. It’s pretty exceptional. This is what I was referring to when I spoke about this cord’s safety factor. The takeaway …This GEAR AID paracord is a very well made and has the both the potential, and capability, to be extremely useful when you need it. It has a highly reflective silver colored thread that signals its nighttime presence to flashlights and headlamps. The 50’ length is light, compact, and easy to store. It can, an would, make a interesting small gift …. I know that I’d be tickled!Have fun …
