I thought this clasp was the problem but it turns out it's a bit of plastic broken around the spring mechanism at the back of the lid. It was easy enough to replace.

We have a 15 year old brabantia kitchen bin, it’s lid would not stay down, the catch arrived next day, easy to fit and the lid is now working properly again.
