Arrived with 1 jar broken. Either pump didn't work or lids would not hold a seal. I purchased similar type lids a year ago from another vendor and they work fine. That vendor is no longer available which is why I went with these.

One of the best all in one kits you can get for the price point and functionality! Im new to fermenting, however I found this kit to be a great one stop shop. I really appreciate that it comes with a vacuum pump to create a vacuum seal. The airlock lids feel of robust construction and I believe will last a fair while.

This time of year is when we are busiest with pickling and fermenting all the vegetables from our garden. I've used this kit before, and found it to be one of the better all-in-one kits. The lids are much sturdier than the regular mason jar bands and lids. No boiling needed to create the vacuum. And it has a tab for when it's time to open. Still difficult, but at least there a grip available. Best is the built in date marker to remind you when it was done. And a Open/Close directional in case you forgot the righty-tighty rule. Pickling and fermenting is easily controlled with the sturdy one way valve. Not only does it work great for vacuuming out the air, it's also great for regulating CO2 build up. The valve allows the excess CO2 to escapes so ther'e no danger of too much build up. And the pump comes in handy after opening the jar to taste, or extract, the pickles, by removing excess oxygen left in the jar.Two minor nit picks. One, the jars that comes with the kit are decent quality, but I prefer to use Ball jars. And the second is that cleaning the lids requires a bit of effort. Removing the one way valve is easy. Reinstalling it is a bit tricky. Best to use a chopstick to help you. The other is removing the inner seal is a bit tricky, as you'l need something that gets between the seal and the lid, and try not scratching either. A wooden toothpick is what works for me.The included recipe book is excellent for beginners. But I highly recommend getting their Fermentation Glass Weights to keep your items under the surface of the liquid. Also, these come in handy for minor craft projects when you need to use vacuum pressure. I reserve one in my shop to use with wood stabilizer for my pen blank. Because the stabilizing chemical redenders the jar as no longer food safe, I use the ones included in the kit, and use Ball branded one for food based projects.

This is a nice fermentation kit to get you started on large batches. It has almost everything you should need, with the exception of some glass fermentation weights to keep your stuff below the top surface of the brine. You get three 64oz Mason jars, 3 Easy Fermentation Lids, and an oxygen pump.I currently make my own hot sauce by fermenting peppers, carrots, and garlic from my garden. I mostly use 32 oz Mason jars for that but I am looking to use some 64oz jars next year to do larger fermentations as well as add pickles to my pantry as well. When you ferment things, gas is produced in the process. You need to open your jars and "burp" them in order to prevent the gas pressure from building and possibly exploding the jar. The problem is that every time you open your jar you are allowing oxygen into the jar which makes the growth of mold more possible. If mold does grow in your jar, you will have to toss it as it will no longer be safe to consume. The Easy Fermentation lids solve that problem for you. If you use them when you close your jar you can then use the pump to suck the oxygen out of the jar, making the growth of mold much less likely. The Easy Fermentation lids also eliminate the need to "burp" your jars, because they automate the process for you. The lids allow built up gases to escape on their own, while also preventing oxygen from getting in. Believe me, once you start using Easy Fermentation lids you will never go back to the old way. They make your life a whole lot easier. This set isn't cheap, and everyone doesn't need 64oz Mason jars, but if you are ready to move up to 64oz jars, it does get expensive to buy everything you need. This set is a nice 3-jar kit that makes it easier to move up to the bigger jars without having to invest a lot more money.

I'm not a total newb to fermenting, but most of my experience is working with liquids (ginger beer, alcohol from sugar). Lately I've gotten into tree-to-bar chocolate, but that's another story.Anyway, I like sauerkraut and don't like not being able to find it in the grocery store or paying high prices when I do find it. Farmers market is often a good place to source, if you don't mind paying even more for it there. But now I can make my own, and all it takes is salt and cabbage! And this nifty little kit, of course. The jar lids are the secret to making this work. The kit is a bit pricey, but it's a great way to get started because it makes fermenting simple and easy and accessible. In my opinion the expense of the kit could be considered tuition for entry into the world of fermenting vegetables, etc. Once you have equipment that works reliably and is this easy to use, it's not scary or complicated any more.(I was sad to note that one of the Mason jars in my kit broke somewhere in transit; it was the jar with the pump and extra bits inside. I had to carefully rinse to get rid of all the tiny broken glass shards and flakes, but since the lids will fit most any wide-mouth canning jar, I can replace it easily.)Five enthusiastic stars for this kit.
