The connection wasn’t tight enough in the battery box to get it to work. I’ve cut up some copper to rig it and it turned on for a second but now I need my son to help me.

I’m one of those people who isn’t big on reading instructions. But I am big on logic, and that usually gets me through. Since this game is advertised as ages “6 and up,” I really thought it would be a no-brainer to just sit down, pop some batteries in, and start playing my first simple game. I was wrong. And even once I resigned myself to actually reading the instructions, I found that I still needed a bit of trial and error just to figure out the exact sequence of buttons that needed to be selected just to select the game I wanted to play, with myself as the only player, at the skill level at which I wanted to play. And then, after not playing a game for a while and wanting to start a new session, I found myself back at square one with regards to how to properly select the correct game configuration.Maybe that in itself is a testimony to how badly I need memory exercises, but I’ve devoted a good portion of my career to writing procedures, and if I had written anything resembling the directions for this game, I wouldn’t have held a job for very long. How do you select which game you want to play? Do you hit the “Game” button the number of times corresponding to the desired game number, or do you just hit a numbered button after pressing “On/Off”? How do you select the number of players? Again, do you hit the “Player” button the number of times corresponding to the desired number of players, or do you just hit a numbered button after pressing “Player”?I cannot fathom how a 6-year old would be able to figure this out, and I swear I’m hearing “Sorry—you lose!” in my sleep after attempting to play this.Like many others, I grew up with a much simpler version of this game machine, and you can select a game on this device that replicates that experience. If that’s all you’re interested in, then just buy that game. I can see where this game might be a great experience for an individual or group who really wants the mental challenge and stimulation, but to me that experience should begin after the game starts and not before.

Played this with a few of my nieces and nephews and quickly found out my memory is horrible. It's easy to pick up and play and it's Simon with more buttons. It actually has a bunch of different games in it but I like the simple Simon game. Well not so simple since there are twice the buttons. I would say the game is built for 10-year-olds plus since you have to read the instructions and have the attention span to actually read the instructions. It makes a great gift and is fun to play. That being said, there are so many mobile games out there that are competitors. This is probably best left as a gift and something to use as a "game night" item. I still would recommend it though.

This game has a slight sense of nostalgia to it and does seem a little old fashioned compared with all the high tech games at kid’s fingertips these days. But still my kids (pre-teen age) enjoyed challenging themselves with it for a bit. I’m not sure how often they will grab for it though. I don’t see it being a favorite for them. There are just too many other higher excitement games to play these days. This game is more of a concentration game. I do like that it promotes some interactivity because you can play with up to 8 players and you can play in teams. You can also play it alone and it is small enough to pack for a trip. It offers a variety of games that ask you to copy lights and/or sounds. There are 12 games total. The user guide clearly describes each one, and specifies how many players and the skill level. The concept of mimicking the lights and sounds is simple but gets increasingly challenging. I think this type of game is geared for some, but not all. Some people might bore quickly or not even get started with it at all because they might not have the patience or interest for it. So, my suggestion is to consider this before purchasing or gifting. One must like these sort of games to enjoy. Younger kids would need to guidance until they got the hang of it. The product itself is well constructed and worked without any complication. Set up was easy - you just install 4 AA batteries (not included). The volume is loud which is great for large groups, but if alone and you want to adjust it, I don’t see a way.
