This little box is opening the possibility for quality sound without having to set up a guitar rig every time. You basically get to model your amp, cabinet or pedal and use that through their vst in your daw.You can also send already recorded tracks through this box, to your amp or gear and back to your computer this let's you record new tracks leaving your origional track untouched. Also works as a standard DI box for that acoustic pick up that's never loud enough =)I'm still learning with it. It takes time to set everything up and to understand the software. You can also get a pedal that will send your models to the pedal that you can use without the system which is great for set ups where you go directly into a board and don't wanna lug your amp.I know it says it's for guitars, but I am looking forward to seeing if it can be used for other applications such as vocals.

I'm not into the whole modeling thing, as I prefer to use my own amplifiers. Several of my amps are unavalable as profiles - a 1960 Fender Vibrasonic, Magnatone 260, and Gretsch 6160.It was easy to profile these and the software sounds pretty good. It works better as a reamp box.

It's kind of a hard product to explain. It basically allows you to model the sound of your (premium) amplifier with your perfect settings, then apply it to an input source. You can also buy additional models from IK directly and skip the work. You can use this as a DI box to amplify your sound. This device is extremely useful if you have a lot of gear or are very particular with your sound and settings - you capture your ideal sound then can apply it future recordings without having to fiddle with amp settings and referring back to photos of knobs and pedals to get back to that magical moment. For me, it feels like a bit intense and niche, best used by a pro studio that has musicians using a wide range of pedals and amps - and you want to get back to an exact match from a prior session. I think the use case is a little more limited for just a home recording enthusiast.

Setting the software up was a PITA, to be frank. If you've already installed the demo/CE version of Tonex, you'll need to upgrade to the full version. And set file/folder permissions for Tonex software. But there's no troubleshooting guide on IKM's site, so interweb forums are your friend. However, once it is set up, it's a doddle to use.I've A/B'd some captures with direct recordings of the amps and it's almost impossible to tell them apart, especially in a full mix.
