Doesn't pick up anything but light waste.

Seems to be of good quality but sadly couldn’t use it for my shallow tank since it’s a bit too big

I don’t normally write reviews but I actually really love this product! I feel like a lot of the bad reviews on here are user error and confusion. I was a little confused with some of the clear tubing that goes into the sand since it came inside the other and didn’t realize there were two tubes in one, but it just needed to be played with a bit and adjusted. If it’s not picking up more than light waste you might need a stronger pump. I used two different pumps that I have and noticed the level of waste it picked up depended on how strong the pump was. Once everything was put together, it cleaned up so nicely. It was kind of sitting to clean my tank with it! My 10 gallon is too short and small for it to sit inside with the stand, it just takes up too much room, but I don’t want it in there all the time anyways. It is just for manual cleaning in my tank. If you need to clean sand, this is the vacuum for you!

This gadget is actually quite amazing and worked great. Assembly was simple, though a couple of my parts were very firmly stuck together and took a bit of gentle "finesse" to pull apart without cracking the device. Adjusting the height of the air stone in the tubing adjusts the suction power and it had significantly more suction than I expected. It did suck both sand and gravel substrates into the tubing, but a gentle tap was all it took to dislodge the substrate and none of it ended up in the filter portion of the cleaner. Still, my filter got quite gross, proving that it really was catching plenty of "gunk" from the substrate. A quick rinse with non-chlorinated water was all it took to clean the sponge and other pieces when I was through. The filter sponge feels thinner and cheaper than the typical aquarium filter sponge, so I would recommend buying some spares to have on hand. You will also need to provide your own air pump and an air stone.I do have a gravel siphon that I have used while changing water, but it never allows me to clean all of my substrate before having to stop because I've removed enough water. I will still use the siphon for water changes, but this handy device will help keep my tank a lot cleaner and healthier.

I love this vacuum! You need to purchase a small air pump separate to go with it, but it works wonderfully and allows for a quick and easy clean. I have stone’s at the bottom of our tank and it cleans between them very well. Also easy to clean the sponge after use. Great product!
