It's an excellent Studio monitor, though the output is not exactly what is claimed, its roughly around 50 watts though enough for a small 11 by 11 room.I bought it to compliment my Yamaha hs5 which is strong in the mids where the bulk of the meat lies but lacks slightly at the bottom end. Though weak in the mids with almost an unnatural sharp drop in the mid frequency between 1K and 2K The JBL 306P MKII's nevertheless compliments the Yamaha beautifully by providing the Yamaha hs5 a solid bottom end and good highs.As a side note: I noticed a slight Boominess in the Base but it was easily corrected with the roomEQ at the back with a -1.5db dip and the boominess was gone. Good to have these controls because your room might not be like mine and though it's well treated, anything below 40hz is difficult to control. This was not an Issue with the HS5 as it peter out's at 55Hz while the 306P 6.5 inch woofers seems to go strong upto 40Hz and then dips rapidly down to 35Hz which is more than what you need. If you want even more Base 308P,s 8inch woofers can provide upto 32Hz and below that you may have to look at a 10 inch sub.

Perfect for basic level mixing and monitoring, nice sound definition althought these are my first pair of studio monitors so I don't have much to compare them to. Also they can be turned up very loud and keep clarity.

Ive been a freelance composer / sound designer in the video game industry for 14 years. Since 2007 I have been using a pair of Yamaha HS5 monitors until one sadly developed a short and was missing the highs in my mixes. So after a ton of testing cables, placement of each monitor, and ultimately research of other brands, I landed on these monitors from JBL and am very glad I did, they sound fantastic and completely clear. Lows, mids, and highs all come through nicely and I can now hear issues in older mixes of mine.Turns out those HS5 monitors (while good) are definitely mid heavy and, while its not a huge thing, it is definitely noticeable compared to these JBL 306p monitors. The stereo field is also way better with these and paired with my yamaha sub they really sound amazing for all sorts of genres. Ive run previous synth, orchestral, and ambient tracks of mine through these and they all sound great!If you’re on the prowl for your first monitors or need replacements like I did, you can’t go wrong with these!

Ive been a freelance composer / sound designer in the video game industry for 14 years. Since 2007 I have been using a pair of Yamaha HS5 monitors until one sadly developed a short and was missing the highs in my mixes. So after a ton of testing cables, placement of each monitor, and ultimately research of other brands, I landed on these monitors from JBL and am very glad I did, they sound fantastic and completely clear. Lows, mids, and highs all come through nicely and I can now hear issues in older mixes of mine.Turns out those HS5 monitors (while good) are definitely mid heavy and, while its not a huge thing, it is definitely noticeable compared to these JBL 306p monitors. The stereo field is also way better with these and paired with my yamaha sub they really sound amazing for all sorts of genres.
