I love these! They work well to protect your cables that you spend way too much for. People at work have commented on them and I tell them where to find them.Highly recommend them to protect your cables from breaking where they break most often.

I had these "protectors" wrapped around near the MagSafe ends of both my MacBook Air chargers for about nine months, until I noticed a blue-green corrosive-like discharge/buildup peeking out from between the gaps. When I took off the protectors, I realized the outer layer had indeed frayed and separated from the joint, and the two covers nearest the joint basically crumbled as I unwrapped them. Gross blue-green gunk everywhere, almost chalky like oxidized copper, Wish I had photos of them rather than just the resulting damage to the cables themselves.Extremely disappointing. That's exactly why I bought these "savers" in the first place! Over time my MacBook chargers always seem to fray or split due to constant flexing/bending and also discolor/stain due to reaction with natural skin oils. I thought the wrappers were working wonders too: They kept that section of cable straight, rather than bending at the joint, and kept my oily fingers off the cable itself. What a waste. Now I'm left with, like, twenty more pieces of these useless doohickeys—oh, and two basically ruined cables. Joke's on me, I guess?Local repair shop chalked it up to the silicone either directly reacting with the cable material OR the silicone gathering moisture which gradually ate away at the cable's outer layer... or, well, both. Granted, both cables were already a few years old, so however these wrappers interacted with the cables perhaps just fast-tracked the deterioration. Plus, since I move my laptop around a lot, I tend to connect/disconnect my charger often, so the outer layer breaking was all but a foregone conclusion. And I've had cables turn yellow before, which I've seen attributed to heat (plausible) or sunlight exposure (highly doubtful—my apartment's kept quite dark year-round).But, man, I've never seen that freaky discolored gunk until these silicone thingies entered the equation. If you're thinking my hands are just filthy, I can assure that [a] I'm a borderline germaphobe and [b] you need to read up on what sebum is. For me the culprit's pretty obvious. DO NOT BUY THESE. I sure as heck am not risking using them on any other cables I own. Now, technically the cables do still work, but it's only a matter of time before that changes. Looks like I'll have to resort to DIY heat-shrink tubing... or shelling out another, what, $75 on a new MagSafe cable. Ugh. Another victim of Apple's notorious lack of quality control and insistence on form over function. (But surely you already knew that, right? Why else would you be looking to proactively reinforce a product that shouldn't need any kind of added reinforcement to begin with? Joke's on all of us.)

I didn't even know I needed these! I saw them on Amazon and thought I'd give a try. They really save the wear and tear on chargers. You get a lot for the price too.

These cable protectors are great at stopping your cables bending so much that it'll slowly wear down, damaging the cables.
