The gain is nice it cleans up nicely with with the EQ.The scooped mids work for stuff like metallica and pantera but you can also play a wide range of music with this thing I like it alot. Im not a big fan of the tone when the boost is on but other than that I love it. Not much noise either.

Pretty decent pedal for the price. Capable of getting some good deep tones without a ton of noise

This is the metal you are looking for. You'll need a nose gate but it chugs and does the high pitched, super high gain noise thing. This is a great value for the money

I recommend this pedal if you're looking for an affordable alternative to Metal Zone by BOSS. There's a bunch of low cost distortion pedals that can't do very much at all. This pedal, however comes with low med high options, and a boost with ots own knob to add even more oomph!Options are good. Especially with a good amp with equalization options, you can customize away to try out many different sounds. It's not super great, some settings can feel lacking, there is a shhhh/raspy/rattling distortion effect tough to get rid off to where you might opt to use something else if you have anything better already. Also powering it up with adapter didnt work at first, it made loud popping noises that are above nornal when bumping cable while plugged in. Maybe just breaking it in?It has good controls, nice large knobs, and seems to bear lots of power. If you want something with lots of options, especially if to be a starter pedal, this seems pretty good deal to me.

I have been on a quest to find a great, if not good, high gain distortion pedal and this has largly been a failure. I have no joke, tried at least 20 of them and sent them all back except this one by Joyo and one other by MXR. Most of "them" (all brands) claim and swear in the description that they have "the best high gain distortion/overdrive, blah, blah, blah". I plug them in and they are weak or not really truly actually high gain sounding or they are modeled after the "muff" circuit or just dont have a lot of get up and go if you get my meaning. This Joyo HAS LOTS of get up and go! It also had a surprise...the boost, which has its own on/off switch also affects the drive and level of the distortion but in a good way. I will admit, a noise gate is kind of necessary but its kinda necessary anyway. My point is, I will be operating this thing with the boost eternally ON. Its that good. And another thing...its not a one trick horse either. With very little effort I can dial in the most saturated metal tone you can think of and then if I need to, can pull it back a bit and have a medium blues overdriven tone or go somewhere in between with something that sounds quite like Soundgarden. But the hero here is the boost switch that doesnt act exactly like a boost switch. This is one of the best distortion pedals I have found and I have found many...and then lost them again on purpose. One last parting thought, I dont need to dime any of the knobs. There is still some travel left after setting every single knob and this is, at least to me, unheard of in a distortion/overdrive with built in EQ.
