There is a bit of lack of information on these Mazda key fobs of this style, so I want to help clear a few things up. This is coming from someone who spent more than a decade in the industry as a tech. This worked for my 2012 Mazda5.1. The immobilizer (the part that starts the car) and the keyless entry (the part that locks and unlocks the doors remotely) are two separate procedures. In fact, they are actually two separate components of the key fob.2. If you do not have access to a Mazda factory scan tool, you can program the immobilizer portion without one- but only if you have two functioning keyfobs already programmed to the car. I actually tried at first to use an Autel scanner to program this fob, but it didn't work- only to discover that you don't need anything if you already have two programmed fobs. The procedure takes about two minutes if you do it right.3. The keyless entry programming procedure walkthru can be found via videos on Youtube. Its a bit finicky, but as best I can tell, you don't need any existing functioning keys to do it. Make sure to program all the remotes you will be using at one time because the memory for any existing ones is cleared when you do this.4. I recommend first buying a key shell for about $12 with no existing electronics, cutting the key shank at a locksmith, and using the non electronic shank to turn the ignition on when programming the immobilizer- you have to hold the new fob up to the steering column next to the shank but it should work- this way if the programming doesn't work you can return the fob without issue- if the fob has the shank cut for a new key it may not be returnable. You can also transfer the shank from the key shell you just bought over to the new programmed fob, but its a little tricky getting everything back together (especially the spring).5. At the end of the day, this is a reverse engineered copy of the original fob, and duplicates the look and function about as close to the original is it gets. It's very suitable if you want to save wear and tear on your original keys and don't normally drive far from home. But because you are working with cheap, knock off electronics it probably isn't wise to trust this fob on a long road trip. Any issue with the transponder of the key will leave you stranded where you are. If you need a key for that purpose, I would recommend spending the extra money on a genuine Mazda fob.

Worked on my Mazda 3 2011. Key fob programmed, and after I got the key cut at a local store it was able to start the car. Keep in mind, you need both original keys to program the transponder chip inside of the key, so if you don't have those you'll need an ODB tool!4 Stars as the battery it shipped with was dead. Otherwise solid choice for a Mazda key replacement.

Review for 2009 Mazda5 Keyfob - Immobilizer and wireless entry worked great! Followed instructions online and got it programmed by myself. Requires 2 working keys for the immobilizer part. Had the key cut by ACE hardware for $5. This is a much better option than going to the dealer to cut (1) key for $400.

Bought this remote for my car and programmed it very easily. make sure you follow the instruction. My Mazda key even fits in the remote part itself.

Bought this as a replacement for a broken 2013 Mazda 5 key which I had dropped too many times. I accidentally bought a replacement case only in another order, but THIS was what I actually needed. I was able to program it for my car doors using a you tube video, and it solved my issues. Be careful if you buy cheaper options that are just the shell. THIS actually includes the programmable chip.
