The only drawback is adult hands trying to tie and knot such thin line, otherwise a great starter set.

I wanted to expose my daughter to fishing so she didn't feel left out. This did the trick. Seems as good as any basic Zebco real. She likes it....she likes anything pink or Elsa related. Comes with a little pink fish (practice lure), which gets used around the house for various games. Even the boys want to get in on the action.

These kids set-ups work fairly well for a kid to get out fishing, although I'm usually the one that ends up using/holding it. :-) Adjustable drag is necessary on these little combos- if you hook into anything of size, you'll definitely need to work it into the boat patiently. The line that comes pre-spooled is basic, crappy mono, but I've never replaced it. Too lazy, I guess!The one thing that blows me away is the price. I understand you're paying for the novelty and trademark/branding rights, but dang, they can be expensive! For comparison, I went to the local Walmart and picked up a 5' rod and basic Zebco reel for my older daughter who outgrew these little kids combos. The TOTAL, out the door, for her rod and reel (pre-spooled with line as well) was right around $15...

Worked really well as intro casters. 3 and 5 year old were able to use and fake fish was a good item to practice with. Not the highest quality reel but for $15 its fine. Also there may be different models because the ones we got in April you are easily able to unscrew the reel and fix any jams.
