Turned out really cute. I had an excess of material and the only thing not provided is a hot glue gun. Unfortunately it does not have instructions and only says what material goes where and with what stitch. Not best for a beginner who wants to be walked through it, but you can look up each of the stitches on YouTube to complete the project. Trust the process since it kinda looks messy until you add the felting in between and trim down the yarn.

LOVE the cute images, concept, colors & clarity of the itemized contents. HOWEVER,I want my money BACK for SEVERAL reasons: The "stamped" (poor quality) fabric/canvas' are missing some of the picture/image (which isn't centered)! I had to send back the 1st one I received because of the above problems. Yet the replacement isn't much better! Instructions are EXTREMELY insufficient/MISSING, Especially since this is Supposed to be a "beginners kit"!! The provided fabric pen does NOT work!

All things considered, this would make a cute gift. There's a lot of bang for your buck here: really cute design, all-inclusive tools and supplies, lots of colors, lots of textural interest, even a spare piece of monks cloth and yarn for practicing stitches for the first time. There is a lot included in this kit. There are some odd shortcuts though, that would lead me to maybe recommending a different starter kit. For reference, my kid and I have been punch needling for over 5 years and own handmade needles and gripper lap frames from an official punch needle company/school. Needless to say, we're a little biased when it comes to quality tools. However, we've gotten other starter/child kits and haven't had these little issues.First: this punch needle will not be comfortable to use. At all. Other kits on amazon come with nice thick needles, some of them are even made of carved wood for ultimate comfort for long sessions. Or you can buy a supplementary needle. Trust me, you want it to be really comfortable in the hand for this sort of detailed repetitive motion.Second: They couldn't even tape the end of the "threader"? Its a short, bent piece of nylon (they call it fishing wire in the tutorial video). Punch needle threaders aren't fancy, but come on. Even the most basic kits include one made of fine gauge metal with a taped end.Third: The tutorial videos aren't all that helpful. Like they used an online translator; the cadence and word choice is odd at times. And zero written/printed instructions. But, there are plenty of general punch needle tutorials online, and that's probably the best place to learn anyhow.Fourth: I immediately noticed the inclusion of felting needles. Felting is a different craft altogether, so I was intrigued . I watched every tutorial video in the QR link page and not a single video referred to needle felting. So I looked closely at the sample photos in the kit and saw that the ocean background is definitely felted. I've never thought to use felting needles on monks cloth, so I gave it a try. It will take some practice to make it look good, but it works! What an interesting idea! However, please be careful with the hand holding the frame while you are felting. Felting needles are crazy sharp and are slightly barbed along the shaft (that's what makes the wool felt) so if you stab yourself with one, it will really hurt. Usually when felting, you use a certain type of thick pad under your work so your hands are nowhere near that needle. Now for the wins:First: Curved scissors. If you're going to evenly trim your punch needle loops, regular straight scissors just won't do. It was a nice touch that they included punch needle specific scissors.Second: The sheer number of yarn colors and textures.Third: The sample cloth and yarn for practice stitches.Fourth: The pattern design and incorporated textures make this a really inspiring/motivating piece for a crafterIn conclusion, I might not recommend this as a very beginner kit due to the scope of the stitch variation and materials, but a practiced beginner or intermediate could totally handle it. And for this price, it's a really good deal. So, I do recommend this kit, but keep in mind that some of the small issues I mentioned earlier may be a hindrance to a newcomer to the craft.
