I bought this as a replacement for the identical model that came with my home because in less than two years it stopped working due to corrosion, despite being on a door well inside a covered porch.

This lock is very well constructed and looks nice. I do like the touchscreen keypad, and it was very easy to install in an existing door. I was able to easily pair this lock using Zigbee to my Home Assistant Hub. What's nice, is that this lock will report locked/unlocked status as well as temperature. However, I did have one big issue with this lock - loudness. When the lock's motor extended and retracted the bolt it make a very loud grinding sound. It sounded like a loud skill saw to me, and my wife thought it sounded like a loud dentist's drill. It was definitely louder than our previous 9-year old Schlage smart lock or all of the locks that we checked out at our local hardware store. Also, the bolt didn't extend or retract very smoothly. It seemed to take considerable effort to do so manually. Finally, the keypad display stopped working after 1 day, so I had to return it as defective.

The Z-Wave version of this lock has an issue, where the lock would become unresponsive if locking through the hub results in a "jam" (e.g. locking when door is ajar). This would also cause the entire Z-wave network to become unresponsive for about 2 minutes. The Zigbee version does not have this issue. It also works great with Hubitat Elevation and the built-in Lock Code Manager App; although, I had a small hiccup with the driver, but no fault of Kwikset. I initially could not save codes programmatically -- only physically on the lock. In case it's helpful to potential future buyers with Hubitat Elevation, this is the workaround:1. After pairing, change to the Yale Zigbee Driver and click Configure.2. Add your codes progrommatically either through the Device page or Lock Code Manager App. For some reason, it works with the Yale Zigbee Driver, but this driver reports battery at 2x (200% when battery is at 100%).3. Switch back to the Generic Zigbee Driver. This should fix the battery reporting and you should also be able to add, edit, and delete codes programmatically now. Not sure why it doesn't work right off the bat when just using the Generic Zigbee Driver.

We have had nothing but issues with this lock. It looks great and connected easily to our Xfinity security system, but that's where the good ends. The keypad is terrible, we went on vacation and my mother in law struggled with it daily to get in to feed our cats. When she did finally get in, she couldn't get it to lock on her way out. Eventually she'd just call us each day and we would lock/unlock it from the app. The batteries are also constantly dying. This thing was way too expensive to be giving us so many issues.

i've never used kwikset cuz i wanted a capacitive screen. i've had multiple yales not last, and didn't like the functions of the schlage. tried the phillips one. it's fine, but kinda janky. my friend had this one and i like the new screen from what i remember, so i tried it. i really like it. it's very smooth, seems powerful. it is loud, and orientation of turn knob vs status is backward from what i'm used to (ie, i'm used to vertical being unlocked). the rekeying feature is super easy and works as expected. my only complaint is the code entry. there's no confirm requirement. type code and it opens. i prefer having to confirm the code to unlock. seems more secure.
