The LaMotte Tracer PockeTester has me a little confused at the moment. On the one hand, when you test the bottle of calibration fluid (salty water) that came with it, the reading is close to 3000pm which is correct. If you also test a sample of demineralised water, it reads zero which is also correct. I also mixed up my own saline solution following instructions from the web, and it also tested correctly for that sample. However, when I take a water sample from my pool to the local Hardware store to get it tested, the salt level reading is way below that of the PockeTester ( about 2000ppm below) so I’m not sure which is correct. I suspect that the test readings from the Hardware store may be somehow manipulated so that they can sell you more pool chemicals because when I also test the water using a salt test strip, it gives me the maximum level of 5000ppm.I am hoping therefore that the LaMotte tester is correct and that as the pool level drops and top up water is added, the salt levels shown by the PockeTester will reduce, confirming that it is reading correctly.
