I have a flexible LED sign much like this one that I really like, although considerably smaller, so I was excited for the opportunity to have this larger version from iLEDSHOW. I’ll start off by saying that this product does get some things right. First, it’s nice and bright and has a decent selection of 20 basic designs that can be programmed from the included remote control. Whether you are cruising down the highway and need to alert someone to an oncoming emergency, give them a virtual fist-bump, or flip them the bird, this sign’s got you covered. It comes with a generous 15 feet of USB-A power cable, includes double-stick tape to help you mount it to your windshield or other location, and is made from a flexible silicone material that can be rolled up for storage or washed if necessary.But a major part of the charm with a sign like this is that it can be used in so many other situations besides just your vehicle. The seller even encourages you to display it in your storefront, for family holiday gatherings, or to advertise your business. And to do any of those things effectively you’ll need to do some custom programming — and here is where this product really falls off. For starters, the included instruction pamphlet leaves a lot to be desired, directing you to a download site so you can install an app called “iledcolor” on your mobile device. The app connects to the sign via bluetooth, and you’ll be asked to create an account before you can proceed. Inside the app you’ll find some design tools, the most basic of which is a text function that will enable you to write a message, change the colors of the characters, and add some transition effects such as scrolling or laser engraving. There are other buttons for animation, taking or importing an image, and freeform “graffiti” drawing. The only instructions for how to work these functions is included in the little pamphlet, which isn’t all that detailed and has very tiny illustrations. Other functions in the app don’t work at all, including the “image and text combination” and “clock” buttons.What would really be helpful to someone (like me) who isn’t design inclined would be if the app came with a gallery of ready-made images. It does, sort of. If you go under “local gallery” you’ll see… nothing. Initially. But at the top of the home screen there are some colorful icons that if you click on them will take you to a scrolling list of static and animated images others have created. To use any of these, you must “send” it to the sign by hitting the paper airplane icon. It will instantly display and be your default image until you change it again. Alternatively, you can hit the download button which will put the design in your local gallery — which you’ll want to do for anything you plan to use more than once, as the searchable list must be recreated every time you use it and it is very slow. There is a search bar, but unless you know the actual filename of the image you want then it will likely come up empty.The biggest problem I discovered is that while this database in the cloud contains a lot of user-contributed content, the app will not allow you to use anything that wasn’t designed in 16x96 format — the sign’s actual dimension in pixels. You can’t even download it to modify it in the app. That’s a shame, because it looks like there are many creative designs that I’ll never be able to use. And there is apparently no other way to access the graphics — no website to go to, just this flawed app.Finally, the stated dimensions of this sign are incorrect. The sign measures 23 inches wide by 5 inches deep if you include the black borders. The visible area itself is only 19.75 inches x 4 inches, so don’t get this thinking you’re going to hang it on the roof of your retail shop and be seen by street traffic. I plan to use this and its great collection of animated eyes when it comes time to scare the kids on Halloween. Other than that, I can only recommend it if you are sure its limited available designs meet your needs.

Awesome and easy to use

The Iledshow led programmable sign is really fun! It is a corded unit, and I supplied the USB plug adapter. After downloading the app from the Apple App Store, the sign was a snap to connect. The UI is intuitive, and I was able to easily navigate without reading any directions. The sign does not support the clock feature in the app, but the text is very easy to scroll with different effects and multicolor. There are several included GIFs in the app with some not performing well on the screen. The sign is completely flexible, arriving all rolled up. There is a clear adhesive tape for installation.
