This has got to be a second iteration of the original aluminum cast flange which performed poorly due to the mating surface leakages. The OEM piece is made of plastic and everyone knows through heat-cycling that plastic becomes pretty brittle and is prone to failures. This aluminum version of the same exact thing is the ultimate solution to such issue, but it comes with some insufficient considerations in design.First off, this cast aluminum flange does resemble an exact match to that of the plastic OEM version. The only difference is that the mating surface to the block is totally flat, which when mated against the block, it's almost never a good enough seal seam. I've tried the previous two pieces of this aluminum flange and always after 10k miles start to get some weeping drips of coolant coming from the mating surface between the flange and the block. Note that during installation, I've used Permatex flange sealant and on another occasion, I've used the Loctite 5709si; both seems to hold up well at first, but begane to weep after about 10k miles. I later regard this issue to have stemmed from the uneven mating seam between the engine block and the flange itself. The flange could be perfectly flat, but the engine block surface could have been a little off and no amount of gastketry will seal it well enough.Now, this flange sold here at Amazon comes with a composite gasket which does seem to have an acceptable thickness for sealing. Upon installation and after about 3,800 miles of driving, I checked and haven't found any leakages yet. But I'd still reckon the manufacture to take the time and cut out a groove for the OEM rubber gasket to fit into. Other than that, the aluminum flange is the way to go, ditch your plastic OEM flange, it's probably yellowed out as you read this review.In the future, I hope there's an iteration where they actually take the extra time and step and cut a groove into the flat on the flange for OEM gasket placement. For an obvious material upgrade, I still rate it pretty high and only take one star away for the flange being flat, and I just cannot trust that composite gasket enough. Despite the shortfall with gasketing, I'd still give this item a 4-star rating for bringing a way more robust aluminum flange into the market instead of the crappy OEM flange.
